If you remember it, in Half Life there were some hologram like characters in the hazard training map... so, can anyone tell me how you can make one?

thanks if you do.

PS: ask about my map and i will never tell you <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo--> .

don't you just set the render to additive?

OK, I haven't done this personally, but I think I still remember how to do it.  I believe you can actually enter the name of a model for an env_sprite, and the model will show up correctly.  Then change the renderfx (NOT rendermode) to 16(Hologram).  There will be a distortion + fade effect that is what was used in HL's Hazard course.

I used a monster_furniture to mark the entrances to my readyroom. You have to put an invisible func_wall half-way up from where you want the model to stand because it will fall until the centre point of the model touches a brush. Without the little brush your models will be no more than a torso, arms and head protruding from the floor.

Someone asked this question on the IkonBoards ages ago and I made an elaborate WC screenshot to demonstrate what I did. Gone... ALL GONE!!

    thanks.

oh, btw; does the Ready Room have to be connected to the map, or can it be a seperate room altogether? and how do i make it so that one person can change teams mid-game? thanks again, in advance.

ReadyRoom is something seperate from the map. Just make sure you have it placed on one side of the grid, just to save space.

actually it should be placed near to the top of the VHE grid so that it's above the commander view hieght (which by the way is the middle of the VHE grid by defult)

hehe that would be funny if the commander could see it:

Commander: Movement order issued. Move out troops!
    Troops begin hoofin' it.
Troop One: Sir, I cant seem to find a way to the waypoint! According to this, it seems we need to go through a wall!
    Commander: Balderdash! Continue.
    Troop Two: Sir, incoming aliens.
Troop Three: Commander, can we brake off and attack?
Commander: No, I need you at that waypoint. I have a turret ready to be built.
Troop One: Where is this "waypoint?"
Troop Two: They're closing fast sir!
Commander: I dunno, but its this cool place with doors and stuff that say "Join Aliens" and "Join Marines." Neato looking room.
    Trooper One: GAAgH!
    Onus: heheh...

There will be holograms of the marines and aliens in the initial release, as they're used in the training map readyroom too.

Ok, took me almost an hour, but I found this on the net:

They are designed specifically for veterans, who definetly do not need training, hence the name. They feature introductions to such advanced tactics as target aquisition with mouse-like peripherals, lateral movement controlled through various keyboard input buttons, and communication through use of micro-phones, which are just really small phones, hence the name. For a 2-page in depth article on the meaning of training maps, check www.gullible.duh.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span id='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

yea set the render fx to hologram (distort + fade) and you can try setting the render mode to additive as well, to be able to set the transparency. But I beleive that's the hardest kind of rendering hl will be able to do, don't know if it'll work though

I hope you all know that monster_ entities will not show up in multiplayer. The only way to do this is to make your own .fgd, but don't even try to do this, because it will not work for other people unless the mod releases your .fgd as their .fgd, which is unlikely. To make the holograms, just take a .mdl file and load it into any sprite-making program (SpriteWizard works the best), and make the .mdl a sprite.

The misinformation department would have a field-day with you my friend.

Certain monster_ entities will work, eg monster_furniture will work, (And that's a good object to display models with, as Worldcraft doesn't try and display the model so doesn't crash) monster_cockroach, and a few others I believe.

The .fgd file is simply a text file which tells Worldcraft/Hammer what entities to offer you whilst editing. You could edit it to put in a func_chicken, and put func_chickens all over your map, although that would be pretty pointless as no existing mods HAVE a func_chicken entity.

The NS .fgd has monster_ entities in it. Even if it didn't, you could still use them. You'd just have to build the entity yourself, ie, without Smartedit. Adding a func_chicken into the .fgd file will not magically make a func_chicken entity in the mod. Different people can have different .fgd files yet still make maps which work on each others computers.

Your comment about Spritewizard is wrong too. You can NOT load up .mdl files into SpriteWizard, and I really am baffled as to how you could think you can <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo--> A .mdl is a model file, a 3D structure with a texture on it. A sprite is a 2D image. How can you simply convert one to the other?

Anyhow, there are a few ways you can put models into your map.

    You can use a cycler_sprite, a monster_furniture, or an env_sprite.

I'm not sure of the pros and cons of each one (or even if there's a difference), but I do know that if you set an env_sprite to show a model and WC finds that model file, then it will try to display it and crash.
