Using The Knife

<div class="IPBDescription">or just reload the pistol</div> What I usually do when I run out of ammo with the LMG is switch to a knife and jump and slash at the skulks or gorges (I'll empty a pistol clip on a gorge first) and it seems to work well.

On higher life forms, I'm not sure what to do. Last game I got into a knife-dance with a Fade (not a real good Fade) after emptying a LMG clip and pistol clip into it. However, my whole team was laughing at me on the voice comm. Is this a viable stratagey? I feel kinda wierd just reloading my pistol so I can throw it on the ground once the fade finishes me. What do you vets do?

knifing a regening fade isn't that smart, (unless the fade is not regen) anything less you can try knifing. Yes even lerks, although You look silly and dumb, but if you actually landed a kill you can brag for the rest of the game <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'>. As for onos, it really dont matter if you're alone, You're ganna die anyway you go by it.

It depends on what youre up against really, I knife killed a fade 1 on 1 last night because I knew I had caused alot of damage with my pistol and LMG. Like chia says, if he had regen I would've probably tried to reload my LMG and carry on shooting.

So if you know the alien you've just shot is hurting, go rambo on his a$$ <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'> otherwise reload.

empty out all your weapons and IF you have the time to reaload do so. With a onos crouch and run under it and slash the sh*t out of it. I killed an onos by doing that

I'd say knife away unless you have teammates with you. If you do, chasing the fade around the room hacking furiously is going to have you soak up half your team's bullets, so start your reload and get the hell out of the way.

My mouse runs over my heater grill built into my desk quite often so about 30-40% of my kills are knife kills <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'>

i actually killed one fade with only lmg clip, it was quite amusing how dumb the fade was heh <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'>

I'd say i just use lmg, then he gets close then whip out the knife and *slash* slash* u killed a skulk

i have actually killed oni with my knife rofl. i had lvl 3 armor lvl 0 weps and a crappy @$$ aim so i probably missed all 8 shotty shots and 10 pistol shots. anyways the onos just walks away and i follow into wat i thought was a death trap. turns out the onos is stupid and runs into a wall. i proceed to knife it and it turns around. he tries to devour me without stomp (a tupid idea by the way) and i kill it. i immediately proceed to yell "i am da r0x0r!!!111 i ****ed onos with uber pocket knife!!!111" then i get killed wildly dancing with a fade with my knife and i dont feel to good. <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'>

Depends on the range. If your close then you don't have time to reload so knife em.
Knife does 30 damage so you can kill a skulk on full health with FOUR hits. Usaly less since you have emptied 50 LMG rounds into it and then 10 pistol shots.

I've managed to knife an onos. We had a phase in a hive. As soon as I spawned I jump through the phase only to end up standing inside and onos. We both cant move so I empty one lmg clip and my pistol into it, and then start knifing away madly with the body of the onos protecting me from all the little skulks running around.

I have a bind that got some good use that day, its "KNIFE THE ONOS!!!!!11" and I usually use it for when marines are loosing and stuck in their base because of the 3-4 onos outside it. <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'>

I've also managed to take down a fade with 1 lmg clip (was afk). And I got a fade with my knife by sneaking into the spot where it would regen after an attack <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'>

some people need to realize that they actually have to aim with the knife. just because it is partly in the screen doesn't mean that you will hit it with your flailing. (same thing with skulk bites)

if you can hit something, go for it. its that much more embarassing for the other person. lol

but if you can, i would go for reloading either weapon. you will have to reload anyways, and the ruckus might draw in other aliens.

lol Ajurian, i'm yet to knife an onos in this version of ns. i think stomp makes knifing onii a lot harder.

Yeah it does, hate it when they just turn around and stomp/gore/devour when your trying to knife em.

A couple of onos on the servers I play on will actually let me up close and personal with em when Im knifing <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'>

I've knifed a few onos and fades. When they're close you might as well as reloading takes an age. If a fade or onos is running though dont chase him with the knife out (actually dont bother chasing a 2.01 fade) reload the lmg and finish the job properly.

I have managed to badly would a fade and then 'dance' with him for about a minute and a half round the hive while I stalled for backup to get through the phase. He should have taken me down soo easily but I guess I paniced him with my initial LMG attack <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'>

Speaking of knifing rofl, I have to share this story. The map was ns_caged and I found myself in a duel with a lerk. I emptyed my lmg and pistol so he started running away. He flew into upper sewer so I dropped both my guns and gave chase. The idiot flew into that little spot you can get into under the stairs of the pipe to sewer. I promptly ran down there and trapped him with my body knifing the lerk to death.

Not to mention jumping on the lerk in maintainance hive and jumping up and down on top of him while knifing. I kill him near the top of the hive (He kept flying straight up, guess he didn't realize what was happening.) Then I dropped to the floor and killed myself.

Yeah I once got in a dogfight(lol) with 3 skulks.....they were coming at me together and I emptied my LMG and pistol in them...I first went for the one I knew I had hit ALOT with pistol......1 hit and dead....and then I danced around with the other twwo, until I got one more and then diead of the last.....Knife is a fairly good weapon on <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/skulk.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='skulk.gif'> and I've also killed several <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='pudgy.gif'> with it. 2 fades so far. 1 was n00b, and 1 was pure luck <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'>
