Favorite United States President

And why, of course
Who is your favorite United States President and why?
RULES:

Must have actually been president.

Reasons must be something the president did. "Face is on Mt. Rushmore" is not a valid reason. "Had oral sex in the oval office" is valid, however.

Non-USians may still post their opinion.

I'll post mine later, I just want to get a few opinions first.

He's also one of our few presidents under the quotables, "Speak softly and carry a big stick."

You know where you stand with Bush. No other US president has made me laugh so much, yet cause me so much grief. That a man like this is running the most powerful nation in the world...wow.
But still, how can one not love a man who comes out with gems like these:
"If we don't succeed, we run the risk of failure."
"The Holocaust was an obscene period in our nation's history. I mean in this century's history. But
we all lived in this century. I didn't live in this century."
"I have made good judgments in the past. I have made good judgments in the future."
"A low voter turnout is an indication of fewer people going to the polls."
"For NASA, space is still a high priority."
"Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning?"
"[It's] time for the human race to enter the solar system."
"It is clear our nation is reliant upon big foreign oil. More and more of our imports come from overseas."
Of course, the sad part is that this was Bush being entirely serious. Man the stuff he blurts out when he's drunk must be priceless.
We all need an enemy. Even Maggie has that baby with the one eyebrow. And I have Bush. But his track record on debating isn't too good, so I argue with his proxies Monse and Jammer

Maybe hes absolutey brillant when hes shitfaced.
He was really easy for the brits to relate to and was the most human in my opinion.
Jus seemed like a nice bloke.
Respect Mr. C!
I also like Calvin Coolidge. His presidency isn't remembered as the greatest but he had character. A good quote that pretty much explains why he was called 'Silent Cal' - "Well, Baruch, many times I say only 'yes' or 'no' to people. Even that is too much. It winds them up for twenty minutes more."
It's funny, Americans used to elect people with integrity and character. Now we just elect politicians.

Has my vote as well.
Grant has to be near the bottom.
A few other presidents (can't remember offhand) were worse than bad, they were indecisive. Some really just sat there for 4 years and didn't accomplish much.
As for bush, I don't like him, but I'd rather have him over clinton or gore (yes, yes I know clinton "balanced the budget" but he also signed an executive order allowing the government to use citizens as test subjects for experimental drugs. But that was all hush hush like.)
We may or may not be heading in the right direction (regardless of what you say, only time will tell) but at least we're heading SOMEWHERE. Beats the status quo....
Now if only we can get someone worth voting for to run........

These statements reveal the hidden truth of Bush jr [WARNING: These may be Quayle Quotes, not sure]. He is a german time traveler.
Personally, I would have to go with TR. I mean, the list of good things that he accomplished as president include creating the first anti-trust laws (he had Morgan, Rockefeller, and Carnegy to contend with, it was no small achievment) and declairing enough land protected as to cover france, belgium, and holland. He redefined the president's role in the US. He life story is also incredibly interesting, but I'll leave it to you to look it up. Sure, he did a few questionable things (encouraging panamanian revolution), and had a huge ego (not an unjustified one though), but given his tireless work in giving everyone "a square deal", I think we can forgive him.
Ronald Regan Cold War can you say NUKES?
founded UVA
drafted the Declaration of Independence
passed freedom of religion bill in state of virginia
much love
"slavery is like having a wolf by the ears" -jefferson
As a young Virginia legislator, he unsuccessfully advocated allowing private citizens to free their slaves
His original draft of the Declaration of Independence included strong language opposing the transatlantic slave trade.
As president, he signed a bill outlawing that trade.
truely an advocate of slavery...

YOUR THE MAN!
I don't know what this site is or what it stands for, I just put the words "racist", "Thomas", and "Jefferson" into the google and this is what came up. Enjoy - http://www.theatlantic.com/issues/96oct/ob...rien/obrien.htm
There are many more.
*Edit*

admittedly jefferson is not a saint however for his time he is truely a progressive
jefferson on slavery
im done:)
Kennedy sleeps with Marilyn Monroe and stands up to the Soviet Union in one incident and all of a sudden he is one of the greatest presidents. While Ronald Reagan destroyed the Soviet State and fixed the economy and he gets some cheap mini-series that falsely portrays him as a homophobe and not being in control of his presidency.
Anyway, I like Alexander Hamilton much better than Thomas Jefferson. He should have been run for office.
He was also notorious for having the shortest term....30 whole days!!
I think it was pneumonia that killed him, because he gave his speeches in the pouring cold rain.
*off topic* can anybody name all the president in order by memory only, my dad can do it because when he was in high school his teacher made all the students memorize the presidents
