Yup yup. Gee Sheena what resources do you use to find out all these things? Point me to a website?
its the french equivalent to the OICW, PAPOP means "PolyArme, POlyProjectiles. It is a 35 mm grenade launcher with a 5.56mm rifle. It does have ccd-optics that can be connected to a helmet sight or transmitted to HQ(similar to that of the american "Land Warrior". a project with the acronym FELIN is developing a system of add-on modules (separate but compatible with PAPOP) that provide the soldier
with the ability to detect targets by day and night to a range of 300 m; identify friendly troops (IFF); use remote sighting to aim and fire from behind cover; designate targets; and transmit video data that is received on a helmeted mounted display. work has been done by GIAT and FN, among others (FN was a partner in the AAI proposal for the OICW.)) the PAPOP grenade system can be programmed at the instant of firing to optimize a lateral or frontal fragmentation pattern on the target area. the grenade weight is 200 grams. The weapon incorporates day and night sights, a laser range finder, and several digitized programmable features. the french believe that a 35 mm grenade is the minimum size required to meet their lethality requirements. it should be noted that while most high velocity, launch-fired spin stabilized grenades are 40 mm, the russians have developed a 30 mm grenade with a round weight of 348 grams and grenade weight of 275 grams.68
(although the attention to recoil abatement suggest a much higher veloity than the 40mmx26R). also the PAPOP has a three round tube magazine rather than the 6 rd box mag of the OICW. because the explosive round can be programmed with different fragmentation patterns the minimum safe arming distance of the grenade would be reduced.
the outer structure of the papop is made of composite abs to keep the wheight low ,plus its resulting in a nonbreakable outer shell.a very tough construction
bed, here i come
