Easy Cheesy Way to Protect Stock Models
Note: I didn't test this specificly for NS, but it works for three of the mods I have tested it for.
1. Get a Pak maker (Google around for one, use 'Quake Pak Maker' to search) and a clean install of NS 2.0.
2. Use your Pak maker to copy all of the stock models, sounds, sprites, ect. into one large file. Keep the same directory structure as it is when you're looking at the mod directory (Open up Valve's pak files and you'll see what I mean.)
3. Name this file pak0.pak.
4. (optional) If you have additional things you always like to play with (Like NS Enhanchment pack or an AvP thing) Add all of those files into seperate pak files (pak1.pak, pak2.pak).
5. Put any one-time models or stuff you don't want to keep using the default manner.
Congradulations, your files are now secure, short of deleting the pak files.
Order of priority:
Any file of a smaller number is replaced by a file of the same name in a pak file. (If you have an LMG file in Paks 2 and 3, 3 replaces 2.
Any files outside of a pak have priority over files inside a pak.
Probably commen knowledge, but I'll put it out regardless so now people have no excuse to lose their files.

(1) Back up your files
Before downloading anything from these forums, please back up your files. Its a good idea to copy your entire Models, Sprites, and Sounds directories. The more advanced people out there might wanna do it the elegant way and create a pak0.pak with all this stuff in it. If anyone wants to make a nice, noob-friendly, step by step tutorial for this, please do and it can be included here.

Finally! Thanks. ... and it's now been linked at the start of the making models thread. I guess that's not where it'd be most useful though - maybe these forums need a stickied "NS Customisation FAQ" thread.
Anyways, go use this. You'll thank yourself in the morning.
Edit: ****! I didn't see your edit. Sorry about that. Ignore me, shoot me, or... something.
