A Confession

...
NS has one of the closest OT board I've seen. Its small, friendly, great place. I don't normally share personal details, but I think I need to confess something I've done. Its not easy for me to say, so I'll just say it.
I BOUGHT MUSIC ONLINE.
FROM APPLE.
I can hardly beleive it. Its just that it was so convienent, so fast, so easy. So cheap! It would have been 15 bucks, for what? So I could rip it and have a nice disc and case? I rarely use real CD players. It was so awesome. Click, click, click, download. I have the album now. :-)
And for anyone's interest, it was "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown". Yeah, I'm a theater nerd.
Theater nerds get chicks yo!
Anyone else use this or Napster? I use iTunes because of the network sharing option. Its great on College Campuses.

It helps keep the enviroment clean. (no trash created from the wrapping, or the non-degradeable jewel case).
though I wonder if the database keeps track of which songs you have purchased so if your hard drive fails you can re-download free of charge.
Anyway I'm glad you found the experience a pleasant one, it definitely has a future, but it needs to be $0.10 to $0.30 per track and not a penny more.
Buying music. Pshh.
Who does that? Seriously!
Um... Bandwidth? Paying the music companies? those things ain't cheap. And IIRC you do get cover art.
Ah, but the buety of being able to buy one song at a time is that you nolonger pay $15 fora CD full of crap and the one song you bought it for.

Scary that they're the same amount of letters.
Unfortunately, I like the band, not the specific song. If the band can't produce more than one good song, I say screw 'em.
For those of you who can't discipline yourself, bwhahaha!! twill be your downfall!

you are wrong linux>microsoft>mac
In the LA Times Business section, there was an article how music companies are now limiting the amount of tracks per CD to around 10 to increase the value of the album and not have so much filler. It is only because of compression/CD storage technology that albums have 80 minutes, usually 30 minutes of filler. Reducing tracks to the "good ones" is now a strategy companies will employ to increase profits and consumer satisfaction.
Think it'll work?
*Off-Topic*
Jammer, love the avatar. It's a last great avatar.
If there are 15 songs per CD, and 14 of them rock, and one of them may as well be white noise, buying the 14 individually from apple is still a better value.

You are wrong. Mac > *BSD > Linux > BeOS > NeXT > Windows. Of course, such a simple comparison is worthless. Obviously the Mac has a better graphical platform (Quartz) than Linux or *BSD (X11R6). But equally obvious is that the stability of *BSD is greater than that of a Mac.
