Aww man, I remember playing this back in the day.

I haven't seen the video yet, but I can imagine what's in it. I've done some of that game's tricks myself. Does (s)he show off level -1?

98.5 MB. Wow.

Well, maybe I'll play some NS in the meantime or something?

Something is off about this, I mean some of the hammers go right through Mario on the second to last level. And he DEFINATELY goes through the fire wheels and bloopers on the final level without getting hit...
• Anonymous_CowardAnonymous_Coward Join Date: 2003-08-15 Member: 19768Members
I knew about some of those tricks. But what impressed me the most was his control. I kept looking at the score to see some indication that this took multiple runs, but could find none. It could still have been done with saved games on an emulator, but even if it was I'd be impressed.

That bit on the last level may seem suspect, but you have to realize that these old games had really **** hit detection.

I was hoping to see level -1 again after all this time. Oh well. Jumping over the flag at the end was a nice touch though.

You can actually jump over the flags? Madre de Cristo

Yeah this isnt so much a fast run as it is a show-off run. I liked how he finished 8-1 (i think) with *no* time left and the best for me was walking between the goombas. The level he finishes off the koopa that walked along under him the whole level was also pretty nice. Amazing how well timed some of those things were. Someone needs a girlfriend.

If this is what I think it is, I saw it at Quakecon last year, and OMG it was crazy. Just flat out crazy.

I have no idea why this is 98MB though...
• Anonymous_CowardAnonymous_Coward Join Date: 2003-08-15 Member: 19768Members
Heheh, used to do it as often as I could, Yoshi. Kinda hard, need a running start and timing is insane. But (s)he does it with a trick that makes it seem like a cake walk.

I knew a backwards jump could give you a little extra velocity, but what (s)he does with it...

Yeah, this was indeed the video I was thinking it was.

But really this guy could clear it in like... 30 seconds, if he wasn't screwing around...

I'd play this game for like 4 hours, get to the last level, and always die I have never finished this game.

*Watches Video*

....... I am not worthy.

BTW, he is indeed using an emulator, at least for the jumping over the flag bit. You can clearly see the unmistakable Nesticle bloddy hand and a load menu before it begins. Some of the sounds seem a bit off too, so I'd bet he used it for everything.

Eh, SMB3 Power Play kicks this thing right in the pants. Wish I knew where there was a link to it though (I got it off one of those evil P2Ps)

Just trust me, it's friggin amazing. All of SMB3, every level, every world, less than an hour. The first world takes less than 5 minutes! The first leveltakes less than 7 seconds! I has to change pants about 20 zillion times while watching it.

Couple years ago I found it to be very fun doing SMB1 Done Quick. Just the first level though. Try it out, as fast as you can. Time the jumps right and I remember going whole level through only touching ground 3-4 times. Only real problem mostly was myself laughing so much I couldnt control that small italian on screen anymore
