Help Error Message, Can't Play Ns

hey
i need a bit of help i have installed ns v2 of a friend. it works for him but it doesn't for me.
i can do everything on the menus but when i want to play a game it cones up with
"tmessage::TextMessageParse: messagecount=>MAXMESSAGES"
then it just brings me back to the desktop.
i have half life retail (the generations pack (4 disks)), blue shift, opposing force and counterstrike 1.5 and i'm not using steam.
can anyone help?

    running in opengl or direct or software mode. Before you answer go check and also check to see if youre running in 32bit color mode.

    your desktop in 32 bit? does the ns short have the 32 bit setting?

    the desktop is in 32 bit im not sure about the short it says nothing in the target area

    can't anyone help? more info...
    i don't have steam (although i'm getting it) my half life is fully upto date, i have cs 1.5, oposing force is fully updated, and i have blue shift.
    i have looked everywhere in this fourm and nothing works. i even tryed things that i thought were remotly related but still nothing.
    i need to get this working people :tear: i havent even played ns yet:tear: and i never learned to read (oscar bit)
    but seriously this is severly © rap.

    and i just tryed there to join an internet game of ns (while i was running ns) and it said "you cannot conect to a game which is running a different protocol" ? anyone?
