<b>
-Pistol is effective

-Carapace: improved armor absorption and more armor

-Regen regens 1 pt/sec/level, up to 3pts/second

-Redemption gives you a probability of being teleported back to the hive when your health drops very low

-Adrenaline regens your power stores faster - which are 'ammo' for alien weapons.

-Celerity is faster movement speed

-Stillness is a stealth upgrade, makes you quiet

-Cloaking cloaks you - level3 cloaking is 100% invisibility

-Scent of fear marks damaged marines with a special sprite, and they show up in hive sight

-Enhanced hive sight makes marines/buildings glow with flashlight.

-Gorges Weapon #2 is a spray that heals aliens, and harms humans.  Spray a teammate to heal him.

-Babblers are Gorge last weapon, they spit up AI controlled Skulks, they do less damage than a real Skulk and have next to no hitpoints  and they do extra damage against buildings.

-Xenocide is the 3-hive Skulk weapon, the Living Bomb one

-Turrets track babblers

-Primal scream:  3-hive Onos weapon, gives all nearby aliens *major* bonuses to fire rate, movement, and armor.
(level5 with primal scream can take out a sentry turret in under 5 seconds.)

-An upgraded HMG can still mince an onos, if one's not careful

-The longer an Onos travels in a straight line forward, the faster he moves.

-How fast you move depends on ALL of the weapons you're carrying (so, no knife running <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->)

-LMG:  small spread, fast firing rate, low damage. 50/250

-Shotty:  1-shell-at-a-time reload, *nasty* at close range 10/50

-HMG:  pretty big spread - about 2 feet at a range of 75 feet, high ROF, high damage. (LONG reload) 150/~500

-Jumping/crouching/running/walking/shoving your finger up your butt does not affect weapon accuracy.

-Three levels of upgrades for damage and armor.

-Damage upgrades also increase the effectiveness of turrets.

-Jetpacks:  will be dropped by the commander, costing RPs for each jetpack. you have a fuel gauge that refills over time... it will slow falls and provide a decent amount of lift.

-Bunnyhopping will be (almost) impossible cause no long spaces

-Webbing will disable jumping, weapons, *and* your jetpack.(for a max of 10 seconds).  Friend can weld u out of webs.

-Welding a teammate repairs their armor

-Distress Beacon: Commander spends approximately 40 RPs, instantly respawning *all* dead marines at base.

-Tutorial: map by Merkaba

</b><b>
HP and armor
</b>
<i>
Onos has ~500 hitpoints, 200 armor.
Skulk: 70/10 (can be upgraded to 70/30)
Gorge:  100/50 -> 100/75
Lerk - 60/60 -> 60/100
Fade:  200/100 -> 200/150
</i>

<coil> fun tactic:  cloaked Onos sits at the end of a corridor, paralyzes a squad of marines as they enter it
<coil> then switch to charge, uncloak, and just mow them down.
<Plaguebearer> sits in the end?  you mean BLOCKS

    that sounds about right... but we have not heard much about any RC of late, what of the heavy armor, that could only have recently been added.

    so, can we hear a sotry with babblers included?

    THIS IS NOT TRUE.

    Testing still continues.  Flayra has lifted the NDA because he wants to give something a little more substantial to the unbelievably patient forumgoers.  This is *not* an indication that NS will release tomorrow, or anything equally silly.  NS is damn close to release; that's all.

    PS: even with the NDA lifted, we still can't give a release date.  Why?  Because there isn't one.  Don't ask.  (:

    So so wrong.

    In fact, I'll quote how wrong (I'm assuming I'm free to do this since NDA is lifted). Flayra said this in the beta forums:

    Combining these two pieces of information, I conclude that there is no penalty for excessive jumping, and that marines will jump around like tennisballs to evade alien melee attacks.

    Jumping as a marine isn't very effective, because they move much slower than standard HL multiplayer.  Generally speaking, if an alien reaches melee range with you, you're in big trouble.

    Won't matter much, because marine movement while jumping is significantly slower, however, not as slow as marine backpeddaling (sp?) <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

    Please please <i>PLEASE</i> think that jumping will save you from a skulk's biting attack. That will allow me some easy kills as a Lev1 in the first couple days after release. I need all the help I can get.

    That jumping around nonsense is all fine if you have various hit boxes on a human (like a CS, for example, where you are trying to avoid that 1-shot death from a noodle shot). In NS it just means someone will bite your ankles and kill you just as fast.

    I'm not going to go into actual damage numbers on any weapons, as they are still being tuned and I'd rather not have a 'but MonsE saaaaaiiiiiddddd...' when it comes out and is different.

    What exactly does NDA stand for?
  • FreemantleFreemantle Join Date: 2002-06-16 Member: 783Members
    Understandable.

    <b>Freemantle's First Exploit!</b>

    <b><u>Walking the Dog:</b></u>

    This could be done by hand or by script. Basically, throwing your weapon rapidly and picking it back up, Drastically improvong your movement speed. This could be done even better by a script which throws <u>all</u> of your weapons, making you mobility incarnate. (obviously this is only good for the opening minutes, just like knife-running. You don't want an alien to catch you wiht your pants down).

    <b><u>Possible Solution:</u></b> Make speed changes occour three seconds after the weapon itself is thrown.

    Tamodachi : Non-Disclosure Agreement. A contract saying that you have no right to reveal any information concerning Natural Selection, as it is not your property. All shown material must be run through an owner of the code (Flayra, Cory ect.) or a delgate (MonsE). Failure to comply can result in legal action.

    Re: throwing your weapons and picking them up - the throw distance is pretty short.  The only place you *really* would want to do this is crouching with, say, an HMG... and crouching, the throw distance is even shorter.  Not to mention, marines don't move quickly to begin with, and readying a weapon takes a small amount of time.  I don't think this is a very big concern.

    Could you <i>please</i> try this and demo while doing so?
    I just want to see you, throwing your weapon away, see a skulk, then practically jump back on the MG, just to realize that the pick-up-animation takes a good second before the weapon can be used...

    Also, skulks are faster than any marine. Period.
    And they can move out right away, while marines usually have to build an infantry portal and a resource tower first.

    Marine Jumping: Wont be a problem. Marines need to be keepign as quiet as possible unless they want to attract undue attention. Jumping up and down makes a lot of noise. More importantly, the Marines need to be watching for attacks from concealed enemies, unlike most Mods where your enemy is clearly visible and boldly attacking head on. Therefore, bouncing around aint gonna help you much. Also, the Bite has a pretty large area, so if you are even remotely in contact with the front end of a Skulk when he bites, you are bitten. Your better off using that time to draw an accurate Bead and letting off a good, solid, accurate shotgun blast.
  • FreemantleFreemantle Join Date: 2002-06-16 Member: 783Members
    If the throw distance is shorter, then it is more beneficial. If the weapon can be picked up midair, then a lot of the concerns for time issues are lost. I'm not suggesting this as a primary means of movement, but for stories in TFTFL where marines are running away from impossible odds, it could help.
  • Nemesis_ZeroNemesis_Zero Old European Join Date: 2002-01-25 Member: 75Members, Retired Developer, NS1 Playtester, Constellation
    No, it couldn't:

    A Skulk would still outrun them.
    A Gorge would be using a distance attack. Plus, nobody is running away from <i>gorges</i>.
    A Lerk would simply pop a sporecloud in front of them and then shoot spines into their necks.
    A Fade would either shoot acid rockets or simply blink into the marines backs.
    An Onos would either paralyze them, or charge, or build up speed and then chew on their backsides.

    Also, you cannot mass drops weapons Freemantle, the weapon must be your current weapon in order to drop it, thus, meaning you must wait through the change weapon animation, and by that time you have your other weapon already, so it's quite pointless.
