I dont see whats wrong with it. ALot of people are saying its terrible because it just has better graphics. Well what the hell were you people expecting? A different game? Notice its still Unreal Tournament, a sequel to one of the most popular games ever. They're not going to make it a different game, they're going to make the original better.

Think about it before you start calling it names.

I personally think they did an excellent job, and as I am a huge fan of UT, I'm going to pick this up today.

BTW, for anyone that hasent DLed, yet, go to www.fileshack.com

I shouldn't worry mapping for ut2003 is a piece of cake (apparently) all they use is a bunch of prefabs made in a 3d art proggie (maya comes with the retail) and stick it together, even I may make a map (I can't get my head around brushes etc) oh and its a new editor. And in programming you can use c++ instead of Unreal Script (well at least in UT you could)

An (average skill) bot should put up more resistance than this...

Exactly...

They are trying to make the UT series be more "sporty" or something. Like all the crappy EA NFL/NHL/NBA games. there is a different one every year, with only mildly better graphics, and maybe a different player or two. Big hairy deal, and people still go out and buy those...

This is the sequel to a 3 year old game, and it delivers the best damned engine that's gonna be around till DOOM 3 comes out. Ragdoll physics = 0wnage

Just make sure your not running, Win9X or WinME its the Personal Learning Edition and it will only work on PCs running WinNT Win 2000 and Win XP (Which sucks cos I've got ME and want to start work on my UT2003 mod!)

Doesnt maya cost a lot of money? Around $1000 or so? Or is it a downgraded version?
And yeah, you gotta love the physics when you roll down a hill and bounce off rocks on the way down

The maya that comes with the retail is the now read carefully "PERSONAL LEARNING EDITION" It has all the features of regular Maya but its free, no strings well as long as your the only person to use it and whenever you do a render it says Personal Learning Edition somewhere but as your exporting the wireframes rather than rendering them its fine! And I won't work with my OS
Have a lookie at Maya Homepage

I'd forgotten how incredibly fun a fast-paced, adrenaline soaked deathmatch game could be. I got the hang of the game in a couple minutes, and was completely owning the average bot squads (not much of an achievement, I'm aware). I still need to try CTF and Bombing Run, though I'm sure they'll be quite enjoyable as well.

And the maps looked incredible. I want this engine bad.

Turns out their are about 6 difficulty levels higher than 'average', so I put it up to 'adept' and got my butt kicked by bots at that level.

The engine is incredible, and as many other i'm mostly impressed by the Karma-physic-engine. No boring animations anymore!
The gamplays is UT - nothing new but still fun (for some time). I only fear that my HL-mapping-skills won't help much when I try to map for UT2K3...

Superb, totally sublime.

I must have been killed five or six times while I just sat there ogling at the shadows being cast on my gun by the spinning fan above. And it runs flawlessly (20-25 f/s in a heated deathmatch) on my AMD 1.2Ghz GeForce 2 GTS 32meg w/ 256 meg ram with full details on 1024x768x32.

And to top it all off, on the weekend I went to a LAN. There was a big racing game going on and I was playing a spot of GTA3 while a friend of mine was installing BattleField 1942. All of a sudden people were crowding around me congratulating me for winning. I initially thought that they thought that I had won the race. I was playing GTA3 which kinda looks like a racing game, I told them that I wasn't in the race and they told me that I had won the door prize; A pre-ordered copy of UT2003 to be picked up from the local Harvey Norman on the 27th.

YEEEHAAA!!
