Sky's

Haven't gotten em, but gettin' there
Alright, another noob for ya, I've got everything running, I follow the instructions on making sky's, but they don't come up. They act just like water, and give off light. I know I'm missing something, but I don't know what yet. So I need a little help on finding what I've done wrong.

If you put them inside your map you won't be able to see them because they're rendered before the level is... you have to put it as an outside wall. Also if they're acting as water you aren't using the latest compile tools (which clip all the skies automatically), grab them from the stickied thread in the main mapping forum

Thank you, I knew I was doing somethin' wrong. I'll get a hold of those tools right now. I have hl's, and q's ; what ever they mean to ya. my qrad died on my after I had posted, so I had to use hl in order to just compile the map.

I was about to question about skies, then saw this thread, so I thought I'd tag my problems on the end. I've created a new sky, made front left up down back blah blah etc. Its all there. Its in the gfx/env folder, it is named algesco_xx.tga.

Now, when I enter in which sky i want to use in VHE, what do I type? "algesco"? "cl_algesco"? or something else? I assume this is what I'm doing wrong, as for some reason the sky appears a beautiful blue, with some clouds (and its supposed to be space).

Or the problem may be elsewhere...I'm not sure. Any ideas/answers?

Pic is of what the sky looks like...and it aint supposed to.

This lovely blue sky is the standart hl sky, which is used when hl can't find the one you specified.
If the names are algesco_rt, algesco_up etc. You have to enter : " algesco_" (without the "),in the properties.
If it's just algescort.tga and so on ,you just have to enter algesco.
That should work.

Yup!
If you simply use "lost_" as you skyname (without the quotes) you'll get space as your sky.
If you put in a light envorioment you can set the "suns" direction, color and strength.

I'd like to thank you for helping me, it was the last piece of information I needed, and it worked Thank you so much, all tho, the new compilers crashed on me, and wouldn't compile the bsp at all, so it would run the old ones. I went back to the old 1998 (qrad, qbsp2, vis, etc) and it works fine for me, I'm a noob, but I'll use the old stuff for my maps Thank you again for your time, in helping me, and some of the others that had questions on this subject.

If you mean that the p12 compiler isn't running, grab the dlls from the tools thread (the ones marked "dlls you may need" under the line that reads "read the next line of this post!")...

If I could make that text a neon blinking marqee, it would be.

Alternately, click the link in my sig and grab the full download directly from my site.

Aha. Something as silly as a _ . I guess I could use the lost one - the only bits (so far) where you can see outside are looking directly up...and anyway its no trouble, I copied the barest lost one to make my own anyway
