As my final off-topic comment, let me add that I cannot agree with our western chess variant being *the* best strategy game, seeing that it coexists with other variants of equal depth, such as Chinese Xiang Qi or Japanese Shogi. And the aforementioned Go (Wei Qi) could be called even "deeper" than all chess variants, as tree-crawling AIs still can't master it as they master chess.
However, we should prolly take this discussion to Off-Topic Forum. EDIT: Oh yeah! Question! Do all marines carry a welder or does the Comm give it out? Also, how exactly does it work? Are there preset points to weld or something?
Scent of Fear allows the aliens to see marines that have been attacked through the Mind, but attacked by whom? Anyone on the alien team, or just yourself? And what happens when Scent of Fear is upgraded?
As far as the welder goes, it's distributed just like any weapon, so the commander has to drop it. It repairs armor, buildings, and hurts aliens. And certain parts of some maps (depending on the mapper) can be welded open or shut.
Like I said before, I need some nice, hard numbers. You keep all this information from us, and I have two billion (milliard for you Brits... ) questions. Tell me that I can know anything I want, and I freeze up. Wouldn't you know it.
But it's good to know Fam is putting some hours in on it. We know who to bug for it, now. Heh. Seriously, though, any idea how far along the manual is? Or should we be left to our own private speculations. Again.

Parasited marines will show up for all aliens, yes. And I'm pretty sure Scent of Fear just shows marines who are getting damaged, or have been damaged, on hive sight for a few seconds or so.

Ah ah hem. Just thought I'd TIE this all together.
SENSORY CHAMBERS: Allow a player to evolve 1 of three possible upgrades. Any players within LOS of the sense chamber are shown on . . . . .
BASIC HIVE SIGHT: All enemies and enemy structures visible to your allies or sensory chambers show up as yellow smoky rings. All allies show up as White rings. Allies under attack show up as red rings. This is visible through walls.
parasite: A parasited enemy is always visible as a yellow ring until he dies.
scent of fear: An upgrade on basic hive sight available at the sensory chamber that shows all injured enemies as orange rings in hive sight.
ALTERNATE ALIEN VISION MODE: Hitting the flashlight key will make all alien structures and players glow
enhanced hive sight: Alien structures, players, as well as ENEMY structures and players show up glowing when you activate the alternate vision mode. Very useful in dark areas and for coordinating attacks in a pitched battle. Also available at the sensory chamber.
On an unrelated note, the third possible upgrade from the sensory chamber is cloaking.

I really don't see what's so complex about this.
Scent of Fear marks a wounded marine *at all times*, as if he were parasited (however, the sprite is different). The nice thing is that this does not require actually parasiting him - any wound by any cause (alien, falling damage, etc) will cause him to appear in Hive Sight (to the alien that has evolved Scent of Fear).

Quote (DOOManiac @ Sep. 15 2002,17:54)

scent of fear only shows for those who evolved it.

I understand that. My question was whether, once you evolved Scent of Fear, you saw, through the Hive Mind, only the marines that you personally damaged, or ANY marines that are damaged. From Humbaba's post, I'm under the impression that you see any marine that is damaged.
What, then, is the difference in Scent of Fear when having one, two, or three Sensory chambers?
Are marine building not included in Scent of Fear, or are they?
Thank you.

Okay... When Humbaba said "basic Hive sight upgrade", I assumed it meant when aliens see marines, because that's what his Hive Sight description was: When an alien sees a Marine.
That's what confused me... so Hive Sight is just a special term for "see Marines through walls when another alien does".
I have a question. Do you still get that hive sight bonus when in the same room? I'd find it odd if you didn't because well... how can you see him through walls and not in normal LOS?... in fact... wtf?
Now that the NDA has been lifted - are there still any surprises left? I'll be kinda bummed if I play the game and I already know about everything in it.

Question. What exactly is the command center? You know, the place where the commander um... commands. I mean, is it a room in the map or what? Can the aliens reach it easily? Or is it a building that the commander gets in and is safe from everything until it gets destroyed? Could you describe everything about it to me?

could be I'm tacticaly gifted...
or it could just be 'beginers luck'...
we may never know?
SO can you tell us what the gorge's 3 hive attack is?
Are building in constant animation? Is their build animation constantly animated?
Totally totally off-topic, so much that I am now terribly confused. I presume it was a mistake.

hmm for on topic stuff, is there anything else that hasn't been said before? (like the huge fn ******* that you never got around to telling us about?)
Anyways... so are any PT's gonna reveal any more info?... *nudge nudge* Eh?...
As for Scent of Fear, I heard somewhere that it lets aliens see wounded marines through walls or something.
Please?

Can a PT clear this up for us? Has the parasite been made redundant?

A) If you have scent of fear and you damage a marine, he is displayed as though he was parasited.
B) If you have scent of fear, all harines who have been attacked (live<100) show up in your hivesight.
scent of fear is a high lvl one
Scent of Fear is an upgrade available from Sensory Upgrade Towers.
I assume it's all the aliens, but it's best to make sure, you know?
Also, if you have Scent of Fear, can you see any marine who's been damaged, or only marines that you, personally have damaged?
