<div class="IPBDescription">calling all morrowind experts :></div> I know at least a couple of you are morrowind veterans... I used to have a decent character, but that was on my crappy old computer like a year or two ago, and I remember very little about the game. I want to make the ultimate character (who doesn't), but I sorta forget how to get the maximum stat increases each level. how many times do you have to increase a skill or skills of a certain stat to get a 5x bonus? is it the same for major, minor, and misc skills? what's an example of how you might get 3 5x bonuses at one level up?
my understanding, fueled by <a href='http://db.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/file/morrowind_attribute.txt' target='_blank'>this faq</a>, is this:
<ul>
<li>level goes up every 10 major/minor skill increases
<li>every 2 skill increases raises the multiplier 1 notch
<li>only 4 points of a misc skill count toward a bonus for a given level
</ul>
if this is the case (which I don't think it entirely is), you'd have to do this to get 3 5x bonuses at level up:
<ul>
<li>raise a major/minor skill for one stat 10 points, so you can level up and get the first 5x
<li>for the other 2 5x's, you need to boost 2 misc skills up 4 points and a third up 2 points...
<li>for example: athletics and short blade up 4, unarmored up 2, to get a 5x speed bonus
</ul>
I seem to remember finding through experimentation that this all isn't really true... could someone enlighten me?

You have the basic gist of it. Since misc stats are usually of a lower level (and therefore cheaper) i usually find the stat i want boosting, level up a minor with 10 or so levels with that attribute, wash, rinse, repeat with other attributes you wish to gain, then train a major skill to gain the level up. I don't know the exact numbers, but since it's not hard to get money in morrowind you can do this for little expense and it will guarentee you x5 multipliers.
If you look to gamefaqs.com there's an faq specifically about the levelling up mechanics.
If you're finding it difficult to max a certain attribute, i suggest you enchant yourself some exquisite rings with fortify attribute set to as high as you can afford. It's a bit expensive, but it's better than nothing.
Oh, there's also a little levelling up exploit, but i won't tell you it. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
does the exploit you're hinting at involve getting tons and tons of cash using cash exploits, and paying for trainers til you drop? :>
If you want to know how to make tons of money or level up a certian skill fast just ask here.
Also my character could create super potions <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

No, the exploit allows you to level up a major slot that's 100 allowing your character to level up, meaning you can spend your stat points on non-maxed attributes.
edit: I don't remember how old the game is -- a year and a half maybe? it's definitely worth playing anyway. I just now got a computer decent enough for me to fully appreciate the game... heh
Yes, that's right, I was on vacation and I bought Morrowind in a foreign country. I'm such a winner.
ROFLes... i never used the alchemy exploit myself... it is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO over powered

The boots of blinding speed are bugged too. They SHOULD blind you, 9/10 they won't however.
me too but sometimes it takes ten minutes to drop back down. Especially with all the loading time morrowind has.
Whee, jump around!
I only vaguely remember the exploit but there was a way to keep bound weapons(items). I believe it involved dropping the bound weapon(item) onto the ground and waiting for the spell to finish. You could then pick up the weapon(item) and keep it as if you found/bought it.
1) teh said boots cast blind as a variable (not like blind 100 but blind 1 - 100) so unequir requip and you can pl;ay with it like that.
2) Redguard+ Curias of the Saviors Hide (sp?) = quck and simple %100 spell resist.
This will block All and ONLY all negative effects cast at you, so feel free to chug negative effect pots/equip stat drainers/what ever you wana do <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
3) Creat an item that has constant effect [dmg type] for a few points. Sell it to an NPC. Stuipd buggers equip anything you sell em <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> (note you will get a price on your head b/c it was 'your' spell)
4) With the knowledge that NPCs equip anything you sell em.
Get em all to wear those stupid yellow caps (the one jumpy boy has <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->)
5) Lock/unlock do not work in area effects (tried making a longrange lock/unlock spell that woulld effect everything in the largets area possible <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->, it still only will work on the door/chest you hit with the spell)
6) Light does work in area effect <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> (make a maxed out light spell and have fun with the shadows <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->)
7) Morrocrack is just way to fun to abuse <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
As a side note:
Both the expansions are also worth picking up (if you can get em for cheap) they had some nifty new toys and things to play with <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
The Bipolar Blade:
Basicaly it casts 2 conflicting spells on anyone/thing you hit (they are basicaly charm and taunt, don't remember the nmes <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->)
So they constantly switch back andforth with their like/dislike of you (charge for 1/2 a sec act normal for 1/2 a sec repeat <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->)

You can no longr drop bound items, in the PC version
...
By the way, choose your race and major\minor skills such that you do not get any racial bonuses to them, because the more skill levels you go up the more player levels you can go up; therefore if you start off with your max skills higher than the base level you can reach fewer levels. Also, set your specialty (magic, stealth or combat) to something other than your skills. It'll slow down the rate at which you learn, but it'll mean more levels.
