Ns Steam Players Vs Won Players

differences in behaviors
Hi, I got my Steam installed about 1-2 months ago to get used to it when NS 3.0 will come out and to help spot bugs. Since then, I try to play the Steam way as much as I can. I have been playing NS for at least a year now.

I've noticed that in Steam the player behavior is different then in the WON servers. They act more un-civilized, more radio spammed oriented, complain more, more childished, ... They aren't all that way but I see it more often on Steamed servers then WON ones. Also, teamplay is less present in Steam then WON.

So is it just me or does it look like Steam has more Newbies, un-experienced, rambos, spamers simply because most of the experienced and well behaved players are still hanging out on WON servers ?

This soft of gives a bad idea to new comers when they see what the majority of Steam players look like (ok, I may be exagerating a bit by the majority but bad players are more easily remembered/spoted then good ones).

So what do you think ?

Do you see it too ?

What do you suggest ?

P.S. : I removed a few sentences so this post so it doesn't turn out into a "I hate Steam" kind of discussion and would also like that this doesn't become the case.

The only reason I haven't started playing NS on steam is because my favorite server is still WON.

I figure you get more CS kids from steam so of course you're going to see a lot of whining and rambo-ing.

Deal with it until the move to steam is a forced one, then find yourself a server with mature players.

The current situation is really weird, it's like there are 2 NS universes out there.
And yeah, Steamers seem to be a lot more chatty.. that can be fun though =)

I've played NS on steam since it was (unofficially) available for it. I haven't noticed any behaviour changes. Well, people tend to get **** off a lot because Steam mass disconnects people. I remember a game of 12v12 and I was aliens. 20 res. Steam cut off all the aliens except me and 10 of the rines. By the time everyone came back I almost had the res for onos

I played Steam as soon as I got it working. I haven't really noticed much change, and I have, if anything, had a better experience with the people on Steam, simply because I've been playing longer, and I know where the good servers are. About the only behavior change I've noticed across the board is people disconnecting between matches as a matter of routine.

I'm confused. I thought that NS 3.0 was out only for the PTs and constellation right now. Is it?

Or are you guys just playing NS on steam by clicking and dragging your folder into your steam directory? I tried that, but it screwed too many things up (including cutting me out of chat and voice comms!) to play the game.

thats cuz when newbie CS players do a all servers search they see a mod with server that they have never heard of and some of them go and dl it
so blame it on CS and all servers search

Well, I have to play Steam because when I installed steam it made it so I can't play through anything else anymore. Which is annoying...

But anyway. I havn't noticed much bad behavier on steam any more than was on won. BUT
I have seen alot of cheating...
And I dont accuse of cheating easily either. One guy who I wont mention here was somehow running at like 99999999mph as a onos. Its just wrong! Then he tried to blame it on lag. I see this kind of thing alot now...
Its really a shame, btw does anyone know how to report him..?
I want to see him banned forever!!!!

I think it's because, the servers with better people and more teamwork like NSarmslab and the hampton's have server ops that generally do what is in the best interest for NS, whereas alot of NS steam servers feel they must convert to steam, but they dont really check out the news and goings on of how bad NS can really be on steam...

Either that or it's just coincidence that better servers tend to be on steam, I dont know...I played on steam for about 2 months after it's release, then went back to WON...now I cant get steam back...So I've been on both sides...

    just my opinion

edit: by the way...stop making this a steam hate/won hate thread...the creator specifically edited things to try to keep that from happening...

I can't go back to won now because my files have been borked. I see alot of empty steam servers and have personally limited the choice to about 4 steam servers to play on. I don't like the limited choice but like most things - go find a server that suits your play preference; there are servers out there to suit all needs on won but steam servers are veryl thin on the ground. I've found a great steam server with admins/clan people always on and like it very much.

I don't see much difference between steam/won servers except people dropping at map change/round ends.
Maybe with steam people we feel like a smaller community and get to know people quicker.

I think the main reason that there is a difference between the Steam and Won server is the fact that most of the established servers are waiting for 3.0 before going steam. Most people have a favorite server to play at, and most times it is a Won server. There are many people how don't like steam for one reason or another. I have both Steam and Won installed on my computer. I dislike steam because I am using and 3 year old laptop, and can not have programs running in the background without a hit to the game (and since I know some rich noob will say this, they always do, before you tell me to get a new computer, PM me and I will give you mt paypal so you can send me the money not by me the new computer). The program itself is not that bad. But still many of the NS players are hesitant to switch yet, and that means you are picking up alot of the CS people. I know that they do not focus on team work for the most part, I have a CS player in my clan who we have to keep tring to get him to work with the team. Once 3.0 is out, the first few weeks will be rough, because with the mix established players and all the people who see a new mod and respond with "I have to have it and show all the players how leet I am!" and have no clue what team work is. But then after awhile, it will stablize and things will be normal......I hope
