Problems With Ns

when i'm connecting to any server, my ping suddenly increases to 1000+, and i just cannot play ns... i was trying to reduce some of graphic options or configure few things but it just don't work. Can anybody tell me what can i do?
and second thing: when i'm entering the game as a non-spectator my view messes up... i cannot see anything few meters in front of me and after few seconds ns crashes:P
and third thing: after joining a server on few maps i get a message in console "sprite: no such sprite 1" or 2 or 3
i'm using a pentium4 1.7 ghz, asus v8200 geforce3 and 1024 mb ram, and i'm connected with a 1mb DSL <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

type this in console:
rate
cl_cmdrate
cl_updaterate
cl_rate
normally rates should be:
rate = 9999
cl_cmdrate 30
cl_updaterate 30
cl_rate 9999
if those are normal. check your fps_max.. set it to 101 so:
fps_max 101 or
fps_modem 101
having your fps jump can also be a problem on your ping. Does your gfx go all hay wire when you play? or what? if those things dont help try to reinstall NS + your gfx drivers from the nvidia website.

also ns has some different settings for multiplayer. the same rate you use for cs wont work since theres more going on in ns. try lowering your rate a bit and see if that helps. also what do you ping to these servers. use all seeing eye to see the server's sv_minrate and sv_maxrate. minrate is the minimum rate allowed on the server. if the servers minrate is say 8000, your rate of 7500 is bumped up to 8000 for example.
