Level 5 problem!

JammerJammer Join Date: 2002-06-03 Member: 728Members, Constellation

Ohno onos!
If you look, the level 5 has eyes on the side of the head. Eyes on the side means that the creature is not a hunter- it is prey- and also that it is mostly a herbavior. The Level 5 is the opposite of this! I expect this to be rectified NOW! Delay the relase and fix it!

You know, we, the playtesters, really take this issue serious. We'll therefore send an Onos to you during the next few days so you may find out whether the position of its eyes do hamper its abilities as hunter in any way.

Have fun, and better stay away from big, open spaces for the next ... decade.

But seriously the aliens were not evolved on earth so technically what may apply on earth will not apply on his home planet/test tube and actully does it matter?

Exactly, plus, with the telepathic abilities of the aliens, who says it needs eyes?

Well... whoever said the level5 *wasn't* an herbivore?

People don't realize it, but many "prey" animals are more dangerous than the predators that hunt them. Rhinos are unbelievably short-tempered (and near-sighted to boot; theirs is a "charge first, ask questions later" mentality), and hippos have been known to literally (no exageration) bite a crocodile in half to protect their young.

My point is, the Onos doesn't need to be a predator. The aliens aren't hunting the marines; they are protecting their hive and their territory.

You know when you mention it, I didn't think about that!
So In therory you could gouge out its eyes and it would still be able to mow you down, cool!

Or you could change the view of the Onos to be two side-views kinda stuck together. Like how they show chameleon views on Discovery. On the downside, you'd have marines running up in front of the thing trying to sit in its blind spot and pelting it.

They serve teh hive.... The hive commands you, and you shall destroy what the hive tells yooooooo ;D.
Anyways, if we take the way animals are in this planet, Onos IS a herbivore, because of the size and the eyes, and the horns and all the armor it has....
The size compared with the carnivore aliens shows ya that this animal defends itself with size.
Also, the horns are a defense weapon more than a hunting tool.
The Armor it has on the sides, carnivore animals don´t have defense, just attacking stuff....
I just can say, just thing its a weird alien and its chargin..... JUST SHOOT DON´T THINK

As coil stated, MANY herbivores are are more dangerous then carnivores. The aliens might not even be carnivores, you don't see them EATING the marines for energy do you? Heck, they could just be in fear of dying, so that is why the slaughter them. The level 5 could very well be a herbivore.

Dude, the perfect explanation: A MEAT EATING herbivore! I'm so smart! Someone should give me the Gullibell Prize! I just heard about it today!

Yah yah, so most of us are usually mature enough to hear words like that. But then again, it's best to err on the side of caution.

So now whe have found out that:
Onos Is a herbivore, it can see by hive sight and has no need for eyes, Its big, it is PROTECTING the hive and I still have no Idea what it eats (Infestation???)

Oh and we also learnt that hippos can bite crocs in two, thanks coil!
• TenebraeTenebrae Join Date: 2002-09-16 Member: 1321Members
The two side views stuck together is kinda like a bull (according to Terry Pratchett) and like a bull it is a herbivore that hurts people.
Bad connections but kinda works...
Maybe....
Doesn't it.....

The eyes are only a secondary form of target acquisition, although they do allow 360 degree vision. For the players comfort we have not included FOV 360. Heh.

The large bony shield on the front of the Ohnos actually picks up subsonic waves created by him stomping about, allowing him to build up a 3D picture of his environement. Then headbutt it.
• VenmochVenmoch Join Date: 2002-08-07 Member: 1093Members
FOV 360 would really be strange, I'd get confused real easy. Godd explanation about how it sees

That's not any sort of official word - simply observation that if it *were* an herbivore, that doesn't necessarily make it a pansy. Many predators - notably many birds of prey and sea-dwellers (whales, sharks, large fish) - do just fine with eyes that don't face forward.

side mounted eyes don't give 360, I think it's closer to 270
• ZcaliberZcaliber Join Date: 2002-01-26 Member: 93Members
Well, it's quite plausable for the aliens to be herbivores.

Skulks, Fades and Lerks are obviously carnivores given the sharp teeth/Weapons. The flat teeth of the Ohnos implies of vegitation eating, and also the protective armor, the only offset I see to this is the paralysing whip things.

As for the Gorge, has to be a herbivore. Probebly just eats nectar or small ibnsects really, what else could that toungue be used for (NOT that you sick little monkey&#33.

Actually its all but a tiny bit at the back, so more like 300 or 330 than 270 but the idea is OK

From the looks or the gorge, it looks like he likes his french fries more than his uranium.

EDIT: I just had a eurika moment...

WHen does the Onos Become available? Three hives, right? Well, when you have 3 hives up, thats obviously a large home that's gonna need protection. Sure, lesser life forms will suffice when defending the smaller installations, but when you've got something that jsut can't afford to be taken out... The onos is your Xenomorphic life form.
