Very interesting game... I just stumbled across it from Penny Arcade. Just wondering though, were the designers influenced by Gloom at all? It's remarkably similar, but seems to be a good adaptation. All in all, I'm looking forward to the release (so maybe I can finally get Quake2 off my hard drive)

I'd be very suprised if there wasn't any influence between Gloom and NS.
Welcome to the NS community, Dixie!
orcs?! where? <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://207.44.144.68/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo--> ooo, orcs are pretty good foes, to bad noone has made a medivel map with orcs and humans and stuff like that :\
But NS appears to address many of the gripes that people had with gloom, and refines the gameplay quite a bit (with the addition of the commander, ect.) I look foreward to playing it.
When I first came to the Natural Selection Forum I shrieked, the lowest of the newbies were called hatchlings, something I had not seen since the Gloom age. I encourage everyone to give it a try, a few sad sacks still play that crazy game.
Natural Selection has a similarity in that they both aliens and humans, but this is not a class-based team-DM mod that rewards rambo tactics. Read what you can find, but there are several differences. The teams are greatly varied in their manner of play, and this is a game that rewards the team only, and not individual players. If you want that heavy machine gun, follow the Commander's orders. If you want to upgrade to a Lerk, try and help your team collect some resources. Killing marines might help, but someone needs to build that collector. The more I read about this game, the more I realize the brilliance the designers had in ensuring that teamplay was assured and encouraged. This game is truly a Real-Time Strategy game with a first-person shooter front-end.
And, for whatever reason, Flayra has gnoe nuts, and is giving this to the community for free. Still, I'm ready to buy Flayra a nice steak dinner whenever I get a chance...

Ahm, Flayra's a vegetarian hippie. So maybe a nice broiled celery stick with a dash of LSD dinner would be more appropriate.
Come one come all newbies!

I find it humurous that Flayra is a vegetarian. As he made a mod that is possibly going to be the most gory, inhumane, ungodly violent mod out there. That's good, btw. But still kinda funny.
I am not a vegetarian because I love animals; I am a vegetarian because I hate plants.

And yes, gore is kept to a minimum. Less than Half-Life itself, I believe. But no gore doesn't make it any less creepy.

Why would anyone ever do that does it add to the fun or playability of the game?
You asked me if it would add to the fun or playability of the game, and i said yes. There was no question asking for a reason on to why i believe that. Now that i have been asked, in a way, i will tell.
I enjoy more blood because "it add(s) to the fun or playability of the game."
Thankyou.
(psst for you MOO, since u might not get my copy & pasting, realisimn, eye candy, and its funny.)
I was there, as you can see.
Well, blood splatter might be realisitc, it doesn't really add to the fun, in my opinion. It can be funny at times, as in, "Man, look at this room, there must have been soooooooome battle going on!" Or like some psychological testing, "What does this blood stain look like to you?" "A butterfly." But it doesn't at a whole lot of atmosphere that a good mapper can't put in with something as simple as a flickering or swinging light. Eye candy, maybe, but if it were bloody, it's not something I would want my little brother playing. And that's something big I like about this mod...I might be able to let my brother play it with me.
I respect the fact that the dev team made the decision to reduce gore. But, hey, to each his own. I hope, I expect, that you will be too busy checking the dark corners for ambushes to mind the lack of blood splatters.
And, pardon my ignorance, but what, exactly, is RPHL? Thanks.

Of all God's creatures there is only one that cannot be made the slave of the lash. That one is the cat. If man could be crossed with a cat it would improve man, but it would deteriorate the cat.

Satsified customers love scalable details on visuals.
Gore slider? Parental lock out? Why its all been done before, and has its pratical uses.
Now don't go into permission needed, blah blah, whatever. Its all noted, talked about, and evident in my wording.
Moo doesn't like being qouted toyed with. :sidenote:
