In the ns.dll (server side 2.01) Position 1543b4h (using ICY Hexplorer)
#nukeplantresearch???

(next to phasetech,motiontracking,health,distressbeacon,heavyarmor,jetpacks etc etc)

Also, where can I find the variables for costs of things (if you dont mind me asking)

    In the "olden days" of NS (v1 and before that i believe) you used to be able to build a Nuke Plant and then the commander could build Nukes.

    Flayra forgot to remove every trace of the nuke but just took away the ability to build them instead.

    Jimmeh is right. The commander had to build a "nuke" station, and once he did that he could place nukes. However aliens could destroy the nuke before it went off. Nuclear success was kindof rare (OMG eat the nuke!) but was brutal when it went off. It was removed because it encouraged marine turtling (save up for 9 or so nukes and nuke all the hives at once).

    nuck success was virtually guaranteed. turtle in base with a couple of res nodes until you have enough to drop 3 nukes in the hive. The aliens will only be able to take out 2 max before the third goes off. He didnt remove all traces of it because, there is always the slight possiblity that they might be put back in.

    I think the nuke should be added and it should take about 50 resource to research and 100 to be planted and have the counter timer set by a marine, and the time should be 5 seconds.

    Another nuke thread, wow, isn't there anything in any FAQ ever created for NS that says "NO NUKES!"?

    Sorry, Black Viper, but that nuke would be the most unbalanced thing in NS since, well, the first nuke...

    Why not just make it so that the nukes have to be built where ever they are dropped? This way you would be required to have someone there to build it and it would prevent nuke spamming all the hives at once. This would add some strategy and and offer an alternative to siege and HA trains...

    I've actually never seen the medlab ingame before. As for the nuke's appearence (the building and nukes themseleves looked the same), they were the nuclear device in Opposing Force. Placeholders were common at the time such the AK47 one for the gl.

    Actually if you look at the Phase Gate carefully you'll see what seems to be a radioactive sign....

    Unelievable isn't it?

    As for making it cost 50 res to research and 100 to create....well, I remember Talesin saying back then pre-1.0 the nuke couldn't be balanced at all, by cost, damage and/or research time. All I remember is that it's somewhere along those lines.

    There could be a way to balance it, just make it near the top of the tech tree, not spawnable anywhere (not droppable from the sky like med/ammo packs) only rear the nuke lab/prot lab and make it so that a rine has to carry it to the site and plant it. Could also possably limit the amout the rines can create at anyone time so that they couldn't send 9 rines off all carrying 9 nukes to the hive to guarantee that at least X amount of nukes would go off destroying the hive.

    Some other things could be worked on like could a rine with a JP carry a nuke? or a rine with HA? would the rine with the nuke be allowed a heavy weapon also? To say that the nuke in anyway shape or form would unbalance the game is just stupid and ignorant.
