Hmm, try and pick up some of the lesser known platforming classics such as Mickey's Magical Adventure and The Addams Family 2 (amazing game, even though it sounds highly generic).

It's a knockoff, really. Seikon Denetsu 3 (not released in US, sadly) is a much better successor.
Final Fantasy 3 (6 in Japan I think) is a real work of art as well. Much more staying power than the rest of the series, I'd say.
