Interesting Discovery

This just in...
So I heard that some credits were being skewed and, sadly enough, overlooked in a specific NS pack that was just released. This pack, the Spec Ops 2.0 pack, is chock full of artists' work that aren't being credited to the fullest extent that they should. I'd just like to personally thank Dillinja for his fine work in destroying the understanded ethical laws of the editing community.

Thank you.

Another big "thank you" also goes out to Delarosa for notifying a specific community about these faults...and no, this one I'm not being sarcastic about...

let me make a reference to certain things:

first. the rule located in the the official release topic related to stealing:

QUOTE

Make sure the work is yours. Should be a no-brainer, but if a modeller/team says they do not want their work used for other stuff, you should respect that. For starters, your dishonor will be made public. Second, if I see someone take models from another mod team that has already stated it does not want its art assets used in other works, I will personally contact that mod team and ask them how you are to be dealt with. Example: If they say tempban, you will get tempbanned. As such, complaints about overly-harsh punishments are to be e-mailed or PMed to the original model's creator as if you were complaining to an Admin of this board. -- Marik_Steele

and second, the public display of stolen work, and the general "don't do it" it got from the NS community:
    http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/in...ST&f=19&t=44876

So i really cant understand y NO ONE sends me a mail or a PM about that problem ur just trying to tell me to **** or and stuff.

I dont really know what i have tdone to daza400 except not amking his website.
and del just because we (bull, al gorge, ....) have a other custumisation site than urs there is no need to make it a fight between those.

So im really sad about wich direction this has taken and also sad about no one telling me the authors instead of telling me im an ****

I NEVER TOOK THE CREDITS FOR THE WORK I HAVENT DONE READ THE README

The readme also says that u can email me about not honored work and stuff i never got a mail about that problem

This is a game and i just wanted to make a worthy pack for people to play with. And i think i succeeded. So tell me the missing authors and stuff
and lets get the thread back up i dont want it to be down because of some big missunderstanding.

SO ankalar y didnt u just send me a mail or tell me the missing authors. I dont know y del and daza turned against me after i joined nsarmslab.com.

Guys this forum and game has been made to make fun not to make it a law case. I dont know what i have done so wrong i added enotes in the readme that u can contact me any time.

but today i get a warning that del wants to ban me from this forum.

Just to be fair to both sides... And from my external view...

Yes taking credit for someone elses works is bad, we all know that, but,

If i recall i saw in one of the posts sometime ago in the origional creation that he

had included as many peoples names as he reasonably knew of and that if anyone thought that credit was supposed to be given elsewhere else that he was not aware of...that they should email/contact him and he would gladly change the readme.

He does say also that some ideas were not his. And He gave as much credit to as many people as he knew of at the time. Apparently no one seems to have contacted him with any corrections.

This whole thing seems to be a big understanding.

    WARNING...THIS IS A FLAME.

your people are such freaking tight ****..take the stick out of your ****
this is the only forum that i've ever been in where people **** about models...

    4 simple letters:

    S
    T
    F
    U

I've used part of this pack and I will continue to use it. Not like I'll get in trouble for using it. Since I didn't make it or forget any credits. And I doubt the creator of this pack will get in any trouble anyways. There are no "copyrights" for this freaking models. Why don't all of you guys stop bitching about these models. Hell, if I made a model and it was to be used, I'd be proud and happy that somebody wanted to use my work.

    So SUYF you little ****.

"OMG, TEH PACK CRATOR DIDN'T GIVE UOT THE WRITE CRHEDITS1!1111 UNINSTALL UNINSTALL I HAVE NOTHING TO DO BUT **** ABOUT STUPID MODELS THAT I DIDN'T CREATE BUT SOMEBODY ELSE USED AND I'LL GET IN THEIR BUSINESS!!1111"

I'm pretty sure the pack creator doesn't give a rat's **** if you delete the models off your PC or not.

Sometimes people forget to add credits, or they can't find them. Lay off already, jeesus.

    /ends rant

I couldn't care less whether or not you get permission, but at least give proper credits. If you cannot find said credits, then don't release it until you do. It's when people are credited where credit is due that the community prospers. When people stop caring who did what, that's when the community starts to die. This is because nobody would care about their presence in the crowd, they'll just be mixed in with all the rest if they don't get credit.

EDIT: Two things, I never asked people to stop using this pack, I just wanted to bring up the fact that credit was not given properly. Plus, Anderson would know what I'm talking about. He knows that DLCSS will probably never die due to the excellent community support and recognition.

OK let me cfurther clarify the last 3 posts.

    1. Dillinja recieved permission to use some ideas.
    2. He gave all the credit he knew of at the time of his pack release.
    3. He stated in readme that some ideas were not his-gave more credit to where he could.
    4. Stated several times that if he was not aware of credit to be given please contact him and he would immediatly correct the problem.
    5. No one ever contacs him of any problems.
    6. Dillinja is also a fellow moddler, designer, he knows the responsibilities of giving credit where it is due and he made every effort to do so.
    7. Continued from above, he would not want someone taking his work with out credit so he would not purpously do it to someone else.

Accidents do happen. But if this was a fraud case it wouldnt be negligence b/c the procecuting side cant prove beyond a reasonable doubt that he ment harm/or lack of caring to give credit considering he took severals steps to give people oppertunities to contribute to his credit list/notify him of any absences in the credit list and the fact that he stated that not all ideas where solely his and thus gave credit to them.

uh yea... you seem to have no idea what goes into modeling/skining/animating do you? its takes alot of pratice to be good at it, and they do it for free, atleast you can do when your going to hack it and release it as a pack is look up the credits. and if you get no response from the original creator, then say so. i'd say a good percentage of the models you hacked came with readmes, and are probably still out there for download. its not the modelers/skinners job to contact YOU, you should contact THEM.

I agree with Leader, it is impossible to find every single pack with your models and skins in it and contact the pack compilers. Luckily, we caught Games Fusion since it was such a big thing. Also, I never accused you, Dillinja, of purposely trying to hurt the authors of the models, I'm just saying that it is your job as the pack creator to find and give completely correct credit information.

uh yea, and at the time of his pac release as far as he had known he did have a complete credit list and as an afterthought he put in the safeguard of "if I dont have something, tell me".

    Are we all done now?

I think we have all come to the conclusion that yes some credits were unfortunatly omissed and yes dillinja takes responsibility for it, but also the mistakes was by far not intentional.

It also seems that the people who were left out of the credits realise that this was in fact a mistake and that while upset did not mean to make dillinja out to be such a bad guy in previous posts.

I think the lessons have been learned, and both sides can walk away with some mutual respect for each other

So are we done now? Is this resolved? or are we going to continue this all night long?

You know, FASA Interactive did the same thing with their Battletech license when they made some very Mecha-looking designs for their mechs.

    Wanna know what happened?

They were sued by Harmony Gold for intellectual property theft. The designs they ripped off of were straight from Robotech.

It's late, and I'm tired. At any rate, I'd be really interested as to where some of the community's "better" modelers (BrigadierWolf, Maus, Psycho-Kinetic-Hyper-Geek, nthngnsd, Burncycle) stand on this issue. Maybe I'll go further into this after I've had some coffee.

Im glad to see this is somewhat coming together.

I know I was kinda butting into you two's issue here but as a big fan of custom models and skins I consider you BOTH to be very strong assets to the NS community and I and many others would be very upset if something were to happen to anyone of you two or any other skinner/modeler for example.

Especially over something that could have/can be prevented so easily in the past/future.

-So with that good night (its 1:35EST where Im at) and keep up the great work all of you.

It wasn't an insult. I simply listed the modelers who really made a big impact on the customization scene by consistent high-quality work.

Besides, it wouldn't make much sense to ask you now anyway, seeing as you're the one being so scrutinized and such.
