I conviced my paps to let me change the desktop from the picture from the Hubble space telescope.
and Pithlit, when I scroll up and down and look at that image it's nuts, and did you mean tile?
I'm so taking that first image making a tiling version and using it in a 'fun' map. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

I bet it has something to do with our brains' tendancies to try to line things up that makes it look like it's moving...<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Also has something to do with the way your eye takes the information in (via the rods and cones), how the eye is looking at the object (your eye doesn't focus on one point constantly, even when you think it is), the pattern and colour of the image, and how your brain deals with basic information and how it will add information that isn't there. For example, when you watch an object move past, your eyes aren't following it in a smooth line. Your eyes jump from point to point and your brain adds in the rest of the movement of the object. In fact, you do the same when you read - your eyes reading this now are jumping from section to section, even though it feels like you are reading it all in one smooth line, and you will even be ignoring some words [of, and, if, the] as your brain is able to work out the sentence anyway (well, it was until I told you that - you'll be reading this bit word for word now if you haven't reread the original sentence! *grin*)
Was that enough info to discuss with? <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
