I also see NS being a TON more "Spectator Friendly" than CS, for instance, which sounds more appealing...
"OK, we're here for the seventeenth round of CS action on dust... CT's are going to Short A... T's are waiting... there's a firefight.... CT's win. Next round..."
OR:
"Oh boy, the third hive is being built, and only has another 30 seconds until completion! That marine strike force has got to find it FAST or there's gonnna be some ONOS's running around...
The team advances... Looks like they're going to the water hive, they've got 5 guys, 2 with lmg's, 2 with HMG's and 1 with a shottie, their grenadier was taken out.. OH NO! IT"S a skulk! The team's running now, it caugt 'em off guard, the commander's gotta get into the game here!"
The second one, right? NS os gonna be a lot slower of a game, yet still have moments of excitement, which will make people wanna watch it. Hell, I'd be willing just to freaking watch a playtest of NS.
Name one person, save some insane clan leaders, who are gonna wanna watch a CS match...
NS might start at more than a 100 server guys maybe even in the b section but it will never make it to the level that cs has attained without being released retail...
But look at all the llamas in cs do we want that or do we want a more tight noob friendly comunity i like the later. Besides less llamas = more time for me to play NS.
I've yet to see a newbie friendly HL community, even the smaller community's get taken over by the long time vets and the few big clans and eventually the elitist nature of it's players makes it too intimidating (not to mention annoying) for newer players.
First of all, about the range thing, i had it at a much worse scale and i just didnt bother to change the "(like DoD)" captions on the side, I also didnt take into account the professionalisms. I probably should have taken those into account when making the scale, but I think most of you would agree that its not that big of a deal. The number part of it is what counts, not the likeness of another mod, so I will edit that out now.
I'd say it will start at around B or C then after the llamas have gone drop a little. And after this it will steadily climb to D or even E. Quality will find a way and win! <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->

Im pretty sure within the span of NS's lifetime, Flayra will get a call from Valve just like the creators of DOD because this will get so popular. It will be mod of the month in every PC gaming magazine and will get good reviews everywhere.
There's a problem with ValVe endorsement however...
When a mod becomes large scale... well... Let me refraise.
Say Natural selection is a snowball sitting at a top of a VERY large hill. The initial ball represents every active member on the forum and the first drop is below freezing tempurature and very steep (Player blitz). As it rolls down the hill, it picks up more snow (players) and generally gets bigger.
Now after a certain point, there is no more snow and there's just dirt and debris (lllamas, idiots, whining 9 year olds) and as it goes down THAT part... well... let's say there's little snow left at the bottom and it becomes a large ball of dirt. ^^;;
NS world championship, now that'll be a great day.
As for the size of the community, it's going to be large (for a mod me thinks) at first and will be self-sustaining (the most important part). However for final size, I don't know.

Oh, well I think NS will make it into B. It already is very popular (it got 1/4th of a page in CGM).
