Please Help

I just downloaded HL to my new comp and when i first loaded up into a game i was only using 1/4 of my screen and what i did see was very small and purple tinted boxes made up everything, i downloaded the update for HL off file planet and loaded on fine, not sure if i need to upgrade my video settings or what, please help

    Have you tried going into Video card Settings and Changing your screen size? (Go into Halflife> configuration> Video Options and check to see that the bar is where you want it) What is your resolution set at? Do you know what kindof video card you are using?

    Adjust your monitor settings to the right size if your problem is what I think it is.
