<div class="IPBDescription">Best. Cell phone. EVER. EVER!!!</div>omg omg omg
My new cell phone ROCKS.
Its the <a href='http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000DIXEV/qid=1072078063/br=2-4/ref=br_ts_slwth_th_4/104-6357926-1337529?v=glance&s=wireless&n=301187' target='_blank'>Motorola MPx200 Smartphone</a>. OMG I can't get over how much it pwns.
Check out the sexy sexy pics:
<a href='http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0000DIXEV.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg' target='_blank'>Front</a>
<a href='http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0000DIXEV.01.PT01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg' target='_blank'>Front (closed)</a>
<a href='http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0000DIXEV.01.PT02.LZZZZZZZ.jpg' target='_blank'>Side (half open)</a>
<a href='http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0000DIXEV.01.PT08.LZZZZZZZ.jpg' target='_blank'>Start Menu</a>
<a href='http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0000DIXEV.01.LEFT.LZZZZZZZ.jpg' target='_blank'>Solitare</a>!
Its got an LCD screen that displays in 16-bit color! Its got a built in 10MB of storage and 30MB RAM, but I can get a MMC card and expand my storage space to up to a gig! (i'll probably go w/ the 64mb card).
The phone can Contacts, calender events, etc just like a PDA. The phone is basically running a specialized version of Windows on it as well, which means that programmers (including me) can easily write apps for the thing. It comes w/ a USB cable you can use to hook up to your PC and transfer any files back and forth, and as an added bonus the USB cable can even charge the battery! :D
When hooked up to PC via the USB cable, you can also syncronize the phone much in the way you can a laptop or a Palm Pilot. This means that you can have files on both your PC and your mobile device, and if you change one it will automagically change the other! The only bad part is you have to have Outlook (not Outlook Express) to sync contacts. :( Oh well, it's not that big of a deal.
The phone has Media Player on it, so it plays WAVs, MP3s, AVIs, and WMVs. Although you can also go and download third party programs that will play Quicktimes, MPEGS, and even DIVX files! You can set up any WAV as a ringtone as well! Right now I've got "BADGER BADGER" as mine, but I can easily change to Scampi (I've seen things), E1M1 (doom), Trogdar, or Strongbad Techo (the system is down) at the push of a button. In fact I can even set up specialized ringing to where it plays a different ring tone if its, say, my work calling.
The phone also has wireless internet connectivity! Email, Web, hell I bet there's an IRC client for this thing out there somewhere. Its just so cool to be in a resturant waiting for you food and you are able to pull up Google. :D
Going back to the third party software, there is a gigantic group of people coding for these things, with all kinds of nifty apps. I downloaded a Registry Editor (it doesn't come with one by default, as messing w/ the registry is substantially more dangerous with this than your PC as there are no reinstall discs), a System Statistics (battery life, storage used, ram used, etc) thingy, and two tetris clones.
As far as customization goes, while its not particualary easy to customize (I still have yet to find where you switch a background) the whole menu system is based off XML, so its quite possible to change the layout of icons, buttons, the whole entire screen, etc. Very awesome stuff.
But I haven't even gotten to the best part yet...
<b>This thing runs an atari 2600 emulator AND a NES emulator!!!! :D :D :D :D Soo awesome to see PITFALL and MARIO BROS on such a tiny tiny screen, let alone the fact taht the games actually work and are playable! WOOOOOOOOoooooooo. And a MAME port for the phone is in dev right now too!</b>
Also the DOOM and QUAKE engines have been ported to this phone as well! No emulation, but actually running natively on the phone! However I don't have enough storage space to fit either yet, however as soon as I do you know I'll have these on there. Yeah you wouldn't be able to play them very well, but its just the idea of having DOOM on a mobile phone.. its just... wow. :)
This phone is every geek's wet dream. Every review you read of this thing gives it 5 out of 5 stars, and that's not just type, its really that good. The best part is, its FREE on Amazon.com (after mail in rebates). However, I went to a local AT&T Wireless store and while they sold the phone for $250, they were forced to match the end price (FREE), and so they marked the phone down to $50 and gave me a $50 mail-in rebate (although there's no gurantee they'd do it at any other store, or even at this same one again)!
Free phone, and it plays Castlevania, and the ring tone is any WAV I feel like. OMG PWN!
And now, I'm going to go play some Missle Command. While walking to 7-11! Mwahaha

In other news owners of the MPx200 are crashing into each other on the roads from addiction to Quake, Doom, and SMB... <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo-->
hell I've seen someone in school who can write text messages faster than she can type or write by hand <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo--> That thing is amazing, I can't even type a number on my phone without looking at the number keys <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif'><!--endemo-->
Everybody around here has a cellphone, but we rarely use it to call each other up, we just text message each other. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Pitfall however, rocks me hard. hard. hard.

That's where you change your background.
If you've not seen the site already, go to <a href='http://www.modaco.com' target='_blank'>www.modaco.com</a>. The forums are full of links to all sorts of software, themes, ringtones etc. I bought a 128 meg SD card for mine and the amount of junk I've got on it already is unbelievable. And, of course, you just have to show off by playing mpegs and such (PictureTV is great for that). Oh, and don't use the inhouse Inbox - it's worth paying $13.95 to buy MailCentre from <a href='http://www.sunnysoft.com' target='_blank'>www.sunnysoft.com</a>. Allows multiple e-mail accounts.
Enjoy the phone. I got the first SPV at the beginning of the year and can't wait for my contract to end so I can get the updated SPV E200. These phones are the mutts nuts!
The Motorola or SPV's?
Indeed, I found them at like 3am last night and it kept me up till 4:30 just going through stuff :D
<a href='http://www.coolsmartphone.com' target='_blank'>www.coolsmartphone.com</a> has some good stuff too.
Can you hook a controller to the phone? Because playing games with a keypad? I'll stick with Solitaire.
but if i can play ALL.

heh
doom, you think you could get a linux kit for it?
LOL, a Linux Kit conversion for a cell phone...I can see the headlines now:
<b>MICROSOFT OUTRAGED BY LINUX CELL PHONES</b>
Then excuse me while I go do something violent and spontaneous.
Doom, as much as I respect your affinity for classic games, you still can't beat the ability to access the internet over three times faster than 56k modems from anywhere you darn well please. If your phone is that new and special, I wouldn't be surprized if the company sells the sort of cable I'm talking about. Get your hands on it immediately and be happy.

And when your friend hasn't got his laptop with him, how can he check the website on his phone then? Probably stuck to wap sites.
The MR & SPV Smartphones have IE on them - proper sites not just wap sites. Laptop connected to mobile? How last year! <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
