Some remade marine spawn area
after showing my actual layout to some pple around i got told to do some more routes to the map (its a bit small, you see) so ive been working with the marine spawn area brushes a bit. Ive made a "copy-paste" work and then joined rooms.... lets see.....

This last one shows a pathetic NOCLIP upper view just to show the layout.

Purty, real purty. My suggestion, make it somewhat darker.

I disagree. The light level is fine as-is. It's the marine start, of course, so being relatively bright is fine. You may want to consider some cover, as it's pretty much a wide open space.

I really like it, though I think the color of the light-spots need to be changed a little, it looks a little too extreme. Other than that, it looks nice!

Great job. I'd suggest to vary the height of the floor a bit to add some more visual appeal. Throw some ramps, stairs, guardrails, tables, etc in there, just to break up the flatness. Other than that it looks good.

Looks good, nice unique lighting . I especially like the patterns that the beams make, looks very cool. I feel that the sort-of-curved arches don't look too good, maybe because they look kinda jagged, and also because I wouldn't expect to see an arch on a spaceship. The r_speeds in pic 2 look pretty high. Also, the walls look a little bare, but maybe that's just cause I can't see the whole 3d effect in a 2d picture.

Doesnt look 2 bad..i get a feeling of abandonment from looking at the pics.
Decent arcitect, nice wide corridors, bright lighting high areas...very good marine start area.
See what i think is that all marine start areas should at least show some kind of contamination that the aliens are in the same place as they are to give it more of that feel u get when watching Aliens.
The marines are in a safe bright place with wide corridors to take advantage of their weapons yet there is still evidence of alien activity..
thats just me. I agree about the r_speeds in the 2nd bit try and lower them as much as possible without ruining the nice look pics Lightin there is great.

The light on the ground appears to be a different color than the sky. Unless there's a large, orange sun that can be easily seen, you might want to make it more red.

Also, the r_speeds look much higher than would be expected in all of these shots. Use gl_wireframe 2 to see what's being drawn. The solution to the problem could be a few well placed hint brushes, or you may have to rebuild the room (or small parts of it) to fix any brush splitting errors made by vis.

I like it. The orange sunlight reminds me of Quake 2.

mmm, thx for the feedback guys.

r_speeds are high cause i did it quickly, joined the rooms fast and didnt bother about it, they will get lower. I also think it looks a bit....empty, so ill also work on that. About the sky.....i know the sky is red and lighting coming from it is orange, but ive been testing with it for a while and a more red colour just doesnt fit.....but ill look again for more red . thx again.

Everything is tip top cept that 700-something r_speeds reading, and it needs some cover, all of which has already been said. Keep up the good work.

It's absolutely perfect. Perhaps it'd be nice to have a bright NS map for a change. Your spawn really convinced me that that's a good idea.

I absolutly love the lighting...well how it shines through casting itself onto the floor but i agree make the room alittle darker but i'd keep the light shining through the same

    Cover ideas:

    The eternal crate

    Tables (metal), upended, or not.

Since this is a marine controled area, missle racks.

    Round crates, like storage tubes.

I remember from the fan fictions, the mention of a kind of Power Wall. I belive this was discussed as a researchable option, but thrown out due to discouraging the marines to take up defensive positions. However, if you model it into the map, and only in a couple of spots, in the marine spawn area, I think it would look rather cool. Mabye make the destroyable, with a butt-load of HP's? Dunno, not a mapper.

Some kind of cart or forklift? Purely cosmetic, not usable in any way (like the powerloaders in the first AvP game)

Not really cover, but perhaps arc lamps that the marines would have set up? Similar to what you see at construction sites, and fabrication shops.

Various pieces of futuristic equipment for the TSA, dosn't do anything, but looks cool. Err, on second thought, I guess the building the commander would set up would statisfy this, but hey

An Espresso bar. Hey, the marines gotta have coffee!

Stacks of metal sheeting. Kinda hard to describe, but after looking at your shots, I think it would look appropriate.

Thats it for now, I hope this helps
