Just wait untill WON leaves and everyone is forced to go on Steam.
i KNOW that there arent that many servers, but the number has gone down since i got ns for steam, im wondering why.
True, I forgot to say, NS is (still) a 3rd party mod on steam.
For me it works great <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Steam is good enough, my steam with ns 3.0c is working perfectly, why?
coz it's the steam supported ns.
Just wait for the release, it'll get nothing but better.
that was fixed. works good a cheese now
[occasional drops at map change, a few bad textures in the in-game GUI (NS only)]
Steam is definately a step in the right direction. I have to also agree that Steam needs more NS servers! I have to use WON 1/2 the time to find a comefortable server for me. NS also needs more custom map servers! Way more!
~Not to be a jerk, but you Anti-Steamers are going to have to go to Steam eventually anyway, and I imagine Steam will be the default for HL2 and and games with its engine like the 2nd Vampire: Masqarade Game(spelling? <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> ).
sigh...
did you ever play a steam supported mod on steam?
i dont think so.
because if you did, you would have realized that those crashes that boot everyone only appear to be happening with NS.
from that you can deduct that it is a bug on NS, since the 2.01 version of NS that runs on steam is a ns steam <b>beta</b>.
I am tired of hearing people say 'steam sucks' and 'steamed' after every random kick, without thinking even a little bit about what they are saying.
since i got steam, which was in spring 2003, i barely had any problems with it, and those that occured were either being fixed by valve, or i could fix them myself with 5-10 minutes of google research.
most of the time, its just the user who's unable to solve the problems himself.
Good Servers on Steam:
.[On|E] Lerk Jerky v2.01 216.58.238.189:27050
[CoFR]FR31NS - Alien Infest 2.01 1 Kicking RSRV 205.163.48.61:27015
The Lunixmonster 2.01 - www.lunixmonster.org 69.93.5.186:27015
Freaks Unleashed! NS Hive Austin Tx 207.200.24.214:27015
and my personal favourite:
Bean-Net.Net Official Steam NS V2.0 69.12.78.65:27015
uh...ever try "bind mouse2 +popupmenu" ?
Make SURE you have a DECENT computer, like 1ghz+ with some sort of AGP based video card, at LEAST 256 ram, plenty of harddrive space (like 5gb+ if ur heavy on mods that is) some sort of sound card, BROADBAND internet (dial up is dying now people, its time to move up the ladder).**** those requirements set by steam, they dont know ****.
NEXT, you should have a VALID cd key, that YOU bought, (no sharing, no cd key gen, no online-found keys, but one that you got on a jewel case called "Half-Life, or Counter-Strike" or whatever applies to you, what im trying to say is, make sure YOU and ONLY you OWN it)
with all that in check, go to www.steampowered.com and download either the counter-strike or half-life cache file thingy(id suggesting half-life for the moment),(thats if u just wanna get on NS asap) After a small 300-400mb download, you can install it, and then come here to the forums and get the 2.0 STEAM beta. After installing that beta, opening up steam, USE your cd key and make an account, make sure you fill out info CORRECTLY, and put your REAL email, (not some mail@email.com bs) (if u dont have an email, try yahoo or hotmail and sign up there) anyway, after your done signing up, steam should update, let it do its thing, it MAY look frozen, but its updating. Once your done with that, start up the game half life/counterstrike and update them, then close the game, and load up NS(should be under "3rd party mods")
*It should look like half life a.t.m.* anyway go to options, and set your binds, dont forget "bind mouse2 +popupmenu" and "bind f4 readyroom" hehehe.
Follow all that, you should be ready to play NS, so find a game and join already. This SHOULD work, if it doesnt, you messed up somewhere.
If steam ever messes up after an update, find the .blob file in the main steam directory and delete it, itll have to update again, but itll fix steam.
good luck and STEAM on

good luck and STEAM on <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Um.... thx. I never said I had a problem with steam, besides the HL crash at random times that others are having also, I just posted that for people who were arguing about the program. Those that think it's great and that can't believe people are having problems with it can read it to see what other people are complaining about. And those who are having problems can look for a fix someone might have come across.
But again,... thx. My system surpasses what specs you have set, and then some.
*edit* After re-reading that bluish, I think the first sentance was for me and not the entire post. Am I correct on that?

Heh, I don't meet those two requirements, and my steam runs just fine. I guess this whole thing is just a matter of luck.
The system is very inflexible and seems like a whole yard for _NOTHING_
But of course, the version of NS thats out there wasn't -made- for steam
So wait for NS 3.0 which is made for steam, and i'm sure it will have the same benefits

Heh. Yeah. Right.
But WON is so much more flexible. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> Good one
WON's Serverlist SUCKED. S U C K E D. Literally <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->. I hated that thing, never used it.
Steam's Serverlist has nice filters (that actually work), it updates if you click that button, you got mapfilter, password, game, all the stuff you want and need.
Then there is the friends list. Gotta love that tool.
The new console, helps typing in commands (will help admins more than the average player though.)
even the steam text font sucks
