NS is a new mod so people might not want to give it a chance saying that its another "CS clone". I am not saying that NS is a cs clone. I am saying that because this style of 2 teams against each other and buying things has been done, some people wont be bothered playing NS and just stick with CS.
But this is just my opinion, and plz dont flame me
Now, CS just feels inadequadte compared to the range of gaming options NS opens up.
oh and yes...ahem i was in school...not that i dont do that anyways...but ya a medal for me!
me me me!!!!

Every mod is a CS Clone. Even HL Rally, Ricochet, and of course Natural Selection
But your question is an OPINION. And not only is it opinion, you're asking a biased crowd. Its the same as if you were to go to pepsi.com's forums and ask if Pepsi was better than Coca-Cola...
There is no comparison
yea! *hint*
and wheres my medal!

No, I'm not the best CS player in the world by a long shot. Yes, it's unusual when I don't die before the end of a round. But the gameplay is so unbelievably limited in scope, there's really nothing *to* be done in it. You can't find depth in 3 minutes... even less of a chance when the you repeat the same 3 minutes approximately 25 times in a row.

That just earned you a spot in funnycrap.doc...
Well if you haven't heard Flay's netcode is supposed to be amazing so I don't think that will be a worry for NS, and what connection you on 28.8?
1.Upgradeable weapons
2.Same, just with armor (you can buy kevlar and such, but thats not really upgrading...you cant get like shield or anything..)
3.ALIENS
4.Buildings that YOU can make...well without using any map editor or maker...
5.TEAM PLAY...i rarely see anyone move in groups larger than 2...and it's always "good ones with me, rest go off alone"...so, the rest dies quickly...and the good dies too, they might get a single or 2 of us..but they die non the less...
6.uhm...dedicatet fans <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->
/me hands Necro a medal
-A real resource model
-Balanced weapons
-Upgrades, for both weapons and players
-Cloaking
-Flying
-Building things
-Structures with multiple functions
-The hivemind, and all the nice things that go with it
-The commander
-A tech tree
-The ability to play for more than 5 minutes
-Respawning!
And engine-wise:
-multiple player sizes
-The commander mode - waypoints, player selection, dropping weapons and ammo, building, using func_buttons, giving orders
-wallclimbing
-flight
-env_fog and particle systems
Some of these are duplicated, that's because they fit both categories. Feel free to add stuff.
Why I Dislike CS.
by coil.
1) Rounds are three minutes or less (usually 1-2). The amount of depth to be found in 3 minutes of gameplay is insufficient to drown an anorexic, two-dimensional baby midget.
2) Repeating the same 1-2 minutes 25 times takes it from "shallow" to "mind-numbing."
3) There are a *few* weapons in the game that are simply better than any of the others; therefore, these are the only weapons ever used. As is true of the gameplay, there is no variation in weapon choice.
4) It claims to be a teamplay mod, but is not. It is team deathmatch. This means:
a) A single player with enough skill can win a round single-handedly.
b) Therefore, players try to carry the server, thereby eliminating any last chance for teamplay elements.
5) The two teams are essentially differently skinned copies. Only a few weapons are unique to one side or another.
6) The community is comprised primarily of whining brainless idiots too absorbed in their own score to remember that it's supposed to be fun.
Now, don't get me wrong... in the right circumstances, CS can be quite fun. EC Clan practices are enjoyable. But it's still just team DM, and after about 90 minutes my brain starts to melt from the repetition.
Comparatively, Natural Selection:
1) Games last from 5 minutes to over an hour, averaging around 30 minutes. The battles fought over the enormous maps provide a *limitless* number of unique experiences. If you doubt me, I ask you why the "Frontlines" thread has 77 pages on it, when only about 15-20 playtesters post stories in it.
2) Generally, you will play a map once or twice before cycling. Boredom does not happen.
3) Every weapon has a time and a place to be used. Even when aliens have 3 hives, a skulk will still find use for his bite. Even when the commander has access to HMGs, GLs, Heavy Armor, and Jetpacks; a LMG-carrying marine can still fill an essential scout role.
4) It is true teamplay. Scores do not matter; the only thing that matters is which TEAM is left standing.
a) A lone marine will not last long.
b) Aliens provide a venue for the DMers among us; they have scores and can effectively fight solo (since retreating for healing, managing RPs, etc is entirely individual).
5) Not only are the teams different; there is virtually no overlap between the two teams in terms of abilities. Gameplay is unique depending which side you are playing.
6) We can only hope. I have a feeling the complexity and the required teamplay will provide NS with a generally more intelligent and less llamatastic community.
I think that going off of the stories from the testers, NS is far superior to CS.
I've always thought CS was just a team deathmatch with semi-realistic weapons. It was different when it first started. People tried to work together then. It's more of a deathmath with people you're not supposed to shoot now. There's nothing to it. Buy guns, run off, shoot at the other guys, die, repeat.
NS on the other hand, if it's teamplay you're interested in, it sounds like NS has it hard coded. Not to mention, unique experiences in every game. I've never read two stories that were the same. I've read stories about the same game from different sides and I can't believe it was the same game.
I think this game has to potential to rock CS's world, provided enough people want something more.
Now, I just need to play NS so I have some real proof.
NS is l33t. I'd say the concept, gameplay, and graphics all give CStrike a hearty kick in the mansack... and this is coming from a long-time CS player, and a guy who's never played NS! NS has much more innovation and looks a lot more fun. I'm getting sick of the huge amount of CS clones and realism games. It's time for sci-fi-age!
However, it would appear many mods are following what I said, and are jumping to futuristic and/or non-realistic. We <i>may</i> see TOO many futuristic mods! <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo--> Not that that's a bad thing...
However, CS has an edge. It so many players and time behind it. It has been around for so long, and NS hasn't been publically released yet, so NS may take time to gain popularity.
In the meantime, while waiting for NS, just spam as many CS Forums with topics called "CS r sux NS es teh r0kzer!!1".
No no no no. What you do is say, "Hey ever hear of that MOD Natural-Selection, it's supposed to be very good. www.natural-selection.org)"
The lack of leet speak instantly disintrests the llamas, the lack of comparisons and 'this mod is better than CS' will prevent flames and the not make the website a hyperlink means that all those 10 year olds using AOL won't know how to get to the site.
TFC and CS has the same weapons on both teams with few/none variations. Everyone wants to be a sniper or soldier or engineer.
CS and FA have no real resource model, and again, virtually no differance in play/weapons/players
DoD is a camper's dream, as two players can essentially hold down the entire enemy spawn as there always seems to be a choke point somewhere... the team weapons are different, however both teams have the same classes and weapons with essentially the same players/weapons/game play. besides...
I cant get on their forums becuase i use a "Free email" account. by this i mean Hotmail. <!--emo&--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''><!--endemo--> i just wanna rip of the admins' head for that pos rule.
NS however...
1 Different weapons for each team
2 Different play styles for each team
3 Different resource models for each team
4 Huge maps
5 ALIENS!!! <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->
6 New features that have NEVER been seen befor!
7 Games are 30 minutes long! Not 3!
8 Valve <i>cannot</i> <b>touch</b> this mod lest it be killed by the many ravenous skulks!!!
did i say huge maps and aliens? <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->
ns > all
and wheres my medal! :'(
Locational damage (though this can be just as bad as it can be good. how many times have you gotten killed with one stray ak bullet when someone wasnt even aiming at you?)
Better models- this is just my opinion (and I am sure just about everyone disagrees with me) but I really think that the models are not as good as they could be. The marine looks like robo cop's evil twin and the heavy armor marine looks like he should get a radio command that says "Danger, Will Robinson!". But then you have to consider the fact that CS has had years to perfect their models. They didnt exaclty look like that from the beggining.
Realistic acuracy- ...ok, this argument has no basis because I havnt seen the acuracy of the different guns of NS... why I leave this point in my post I have no idea.
Test of Time- OK, I saved the best for last. A game is nothing untill it can prove it can hold its ground in the storm that is hackers, bugs, inbalances, and an assortment of other crap that can some up. It is easy (ok, maybe not easy) to hold a tightly nit community of developers and beta testers who feed out info and pics making the game seem great. But as soon as this game opens its self up by giving the public access to that little download link, it opens its self up to potential sh** storm.
While counter-strike has admitedly been subject to its share of bugs and hackers, it continues to maintain its self.
We will see how natural selection does...
ps: necro, Sgt. Vegiita gave you your metal at the top of page 3.
This could not be more untrue the accuracy in counter-strike is very far from realistic. In real life when you shoot a gun it usally tends to pull up in a line. In counter-strike the bullets just land in a random spot in a circle.
