Can aliens climb through vent systems?

Since NS is game that is inspired  by the classic humans vs aliens movies (Like Aliens) I guess that the aliens will be able to crawl through a maps vent system. I also guess that fat level 5s won't be able to make use of the vents but small skulks will. I am sure having a swarm of aliens come charging out of a vent must be a scary site especially when they have you outnumbered.

regards,
etalian

Yes they can, and yes it is a scary sight...unless you are one of them. <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

The only class that can't typically, is the level 5.  Levels 1, 2, and 3 can run through vents.  The level 4 can crouch-walk.

Skulks are the only class that can wallclimb.  The gorge and the lerk are simply normally the size of a crouched human, so they don't have to (and can't) duck.

I guess when they come swarming out of the vent the best you can do is try to get a nade into the vent, and hope you get a few. If the nades don't get you hope you have enough fire power to take the rest out.

In fact many vents are made really only for alien access, i.e quick routes between hives.  Many of these are incaccessible to marines until later in the game when they can get jetpacks.

umm... are there normal vents and "alien" vents or something?

I remember seeing a screenshot that said "They're coming out of the walls man!" and it showed a skulk halfway coming out of a wall.
    Is that an "alien" vent?
Can a blinker fit through one?
Can marines SEE the alien vents?
Can marines go into the alien vents, or only ones that they can see?!?!

All vents are just 'vents'. There isn't anything special about any of them... The screenshot just got things at a weird angle.

As far as I know, there are no alien-only vents in any maps.  What you saw might have been a wall-climbing Skulk with the world model partially clipped into the wall.  Anyway, most vent systems should be accessible to both aliens and marines, to avoid the last alien player on a team camping inside an alien-only vent, leaving the marines unable to win.  In any case, a vent is not a friendly location for a marine to hide -- he's forced to crouch and lose most of his mobility while a Skulk can still zip towards him at top speed.

Some maps even have little "safe" rooms in the vent system (maybe part of a now destroyed air fitler or the like).  Either way, they make great spots to hide any chambers you might want as an alien.

What they mean by 'alien only' is realy 'mainly alien accisible.' Most vents tend to be off the ground so that only a skulk\lerk\fade can wallclimb\fly\blink into them. There's no special ent or anything, the vent if just too high up for the marines to get into before they have jetpacks.
