Stacking Turrets...?

<div class="IPBDescription">Plz help</div> Hi there, I'm [ARFR]A_R & I'm new, and I want to ask a very important question:

How can I as a Marine Commander stack <!--emo&::sentry::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/turret.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='turret.gif'><!--endemo--> Marine Turrets, or <!--emo&::siege::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/siege.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='siege.gif'><!--endemo--> Siege Cannons? <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

Or if I can't do that, can you explain me how to place them for good effectivity? <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

You see, I play NS over a LAN with a lot of friends, and the alien team <!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='pudgy.gif'><!--endemo--> stacks two story Offensive Chambers and they always <!--emo&::onos::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tiny.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tiny.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::fade::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/fade.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='fade.gif'><!--endemo--> get into the base or smash the turrets very easily, winning a short minutes (seconds?) later...

Please reply, as this information will be useful for everyone... <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    you cant.
    stacking offense towers will usually prevent the bottom oc's from shooting.

    Yes, but when I approach them, both (over and under) attack me, killing me.

    I'm only asking for a way to stack Marine Buildings one over another , preferably <!--emo&::sentry::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/turret.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='turret.gif'><!--endemo--> Marine <!--emo&::sentry::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/turret.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='turret.gif'><!--endemo--> Turrets.

    Marine turrets cannot be stacked. There are 2 scenarios I recommend for Turret Factory (TF) and Turrets placement:

    1. When placing a TF in an open area--Place 4 turrets in a square pattern near the outter edge of the placement range. This maximizes the turret range and if 1 turret is attacked, the others will fire on the attacker.
    2. When placing a TF against a wall--Place 3-4 turrets equally spaced at the outter edge of the placement range. Be sure any area behind the TF is protected by a turret.

    Whenever possible, electrify your TF.

    Turrets are not a good defense against an Onos. At most they will only slow him down.

    Thank you, Spooge, I never came up with that kind of placement, will try these layouts tonight. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Can you give me some more suggestions for turret placement? I'm sure there are more ways of placing them, but it gets difficult when I'm trying them. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    As for the Onos it seems mines and: <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::onos::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tiny.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tiny.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::onos::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tiny.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tiny.gif'><!--endemo--> should work, but which is the best weapon against the fearsome Regen Fade <!--emo&::fade::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/fade.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='fade.gif'><!--endemo--> /Redempt Onos <!--emo&::onos::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tiny.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tiny.gif'><!--endemo--> combo the aliens pull every time <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->.

    Again, thanks for replying. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I always find a shotgun to good against a fade, unless its firing acid rockets, then I would go HMG, depending on range. Only way I know how to slow an onos down is to roadblock it with about 4 turrets and a couple of mines in between/front of the turrets.

    And a trillion grenade spammers with shotgun support. Or the other way around.
    I hate redemption onos D: at least they don't have time to do any real damage before they redeem...

    You are thinking about it in the wrong way. Don't try to combat onoses. Yes they can be killed by HA/ HMG marines, but the best cure is prevention.

    Currently (may change in future patches) NS is about resource domination. Don't let the aliens get enough res to evolve to onos. When you are the commander, send your marines out quickly, going from resource to resource. Cap any free ones and electrify them. Destroy any alien nodes.

    To pick up strategies from much better comms than me, go onto public servers and play marines. If your team loses, then it might have been due to bad strategy from the comm. If they win it was almost certainly due to good strategy from the comm.

    Wintermute said it perfectly. The key to stopping onos is prevention. I find it much more effective to forego electrifying and building small turret farms and just get fast ups. The problem is that electrifying takes a whole lot of res, and its very slow to payoff (You could rebuild it twice with the res to electrify it). It is very important to have at least lvl 1 armor and lvl 1 weapons at 4 minutes into the game. Lvl 2 weaps should be in the works at that point too. That combined with good aim and shotties is the most effective way to deal with fades. I assume the problems you are having are due to fades at 3-4 mins, while you have very few upgrades. Onos really shouldn't be that much of a problem. They appear only at 8-10 mins into the game, and by that time you should be fairly well equipped to deal with them (You can easily have lvl 3 weaps and lvl 2 armor and have a full team of JPs by 7-8 mins into the game or a full HA train at 10 mins). If you are worried about an area, drop mines to protect it rather than a turret factory.

    On certain maps a good jetpack/hmg can take down an onos as long as theres room to manouver. Anyways, you can stack marine turrenst Iv seen it before, but im not exactly sure how, I had a screenshot but it was baleeted when i reinstalled NS due to Sven Coop messing it up.

    Currently mine traps are very effective against fades. Grab a pack of mines and plop them all in the one spot wait for a fade to come get you and boom... dead fade. Works for onos but even better for fades.

    Whats best for marine base building? tight build so a eleced tf can save the ips?

    Or more widely so lerks cant just gas 1 spot and hurt every marine?

    Or something els?

    For when there are no good lerk gassing spots.<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Or more widely so lerks cant just gas 1 spot and hurt every marine?<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    For when higher evolutions than lerk are not going to be as much a problem as a lerk.<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Or something els?<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    Make sure that your IP's are not lodged in a corner, I see this far too often in PUB's. Put your IP's next to the elec TF if you want, just make sure the marines can still get out. <b>Time saved can and will often be time better spent.</b>

    I realise the this thread ahs sorta deviated from stacking buildings, but i found this in my halflife folder.

    Yes you can actually stack the buildings but, the bottom ones don't fire I think, unless you do it just right, like you have to do with OC's. And that is not easy.

    Is that a bug or an exploit fix? Or both? <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    It's not really useful enough to be much of anything. (OMG know teh cornmander cann put 3 torrents wehre b4 he si only putting one!!11) I mean in the end, he could have just put it on some other surface, and their is a high risk of the bottom torrent... er turret, not working at all. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Actually you can stack turrets but you have to be very lucky, the most ive got is 3 on top of one another, and they all worked fine, unless something flew above then only the top one would be effective.
