How Many People For A Good Game?

hometackhometack Join Date: 2003-12-29 Member: 24859Members
<div class="IPBDescription">What were the makers intending?</div> Before anyone jumps on me, I did do a search for anything related to my topic and came up empty handed. With that said...

What's the right number of people for the best gameplay? What did the creators have in mind when they made NS?

I play a lot of small LAN Games, 5 on 5, but I always find Marines seem to have a large advantage because of our near infinite resources. Now, this could be blamed on my commanding style, or just the way of the game, but with only 4 marines running around, even with upgrades and expensive weaponry, it seems difficult to spend nearly as much as I was making. This seems to be a marine advantge, for I could drop siege cannon bases and sensor pulses at a whim, without having any worries about resources. It was also sort of unexciting, having to budget resources is half the challange of a good commander.

Are my conclusions completely unfounded in this?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the resource tick is 4 seconds. Is there anyway to make the resource tick longer to 6, or 8 seconds for smaller games? What sort of balancing issues would that create?

seems like the average playtest game was much, much larger.

but clan matches are typically 6v6, yeah?.. so maybe it is more closely related to the skill level. double that is probably closer to where you need to be. =P

Yes, I did leave out the detail that all people involved we're pretty new players. I guess that does make a huge impact.

Beta Test matches tend to be larger, but the reasons for that may or may not be for Beta Testing purposes. Yes as I understand it, clan matches are 6v6. At 5v5 the alien team's Gorge should be getting plenty of res, they may be losing because they aren't used to the system. Being new does make a pretty big difference. To get better you have several choices; A.) Start doing PUG's (Pick-up Games) against other people. B.) Formalize a clan and play other small-time clans for training. Playing Big-Time clans is not likely to teach you much, unless they go out of their way to teach you. C.) PUB play, and lots of it. It will be kind of random, but I guarantee it will be interesting.

Depending on your definition of Newbie, and what you need to learn, one of these three choices might help you get more practice more quickly than the others. (Personally I like PUB play but that is just me.)

    Well......

    Yea.

    Aliens are HARDER to play.

As many (or the only guide I read at the time (1.04))

It said. Go Marine, your too sucky to go alien yet. (dont get in the comm chair, unless you want to be ejected/kicked) (it was a humourous guide by the way.) Once you get the feel of things, like after a few games, then you can go alien.

Trust me, Advanced rine against noob alien can be described in emoticon.

There is that too... Aliens do take more getting used to, but if you get really good with them, skill becomes a greater factor in winning battles. So having the people who usually play alien in your games go pub is an easy enough remedy to your problem. At least it requires the least effort and with enough play time they are bound to improve. It may just be that they are not used to it.

i think that a good amount would be human 6 vs alien 5
because human takes more res all together, and les ppl bugging about no res for guns + amor
    5 ppl for aliens because then u get res faster = ONOS <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::onos::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tiny.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tiny.gif'><!--endemo-->
