Need A Microphone Expert Urgently

My microphone isn't working and I am really annoyed by this, because I cant talk on my games anymore. When i go to record on The sound recorder it says another application is recording audio, but no applications are, Ive tried CTRL ALT DELETE and Deleting all the crap in the back ground, and still gives me the same error

I've tried loads of things, but I've run out of ideas.....please help

I tested out my Audio with a Wizard and it gives me this error too...

    hrm............. try re-installing your drivers, that fixed my problem last time my comp. told me another app. was using the mic. have you recently installed anything new?

    First, please post your system specs (hardware and OS).

    Next, please describe any recent changes you've made to your drivers (sound card and/or graphics).

    Last, try reinstalling DirectX from <a href='http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.aspx' target='_blank'>Microsoft's download page.</a>

    I re-installed ,still same thing coming up *sigh*

    I'm going to bet this has more to do with your soundcard and its drivers/software than anything else. Something probably got corrupted along the way, hopefully software and not the hardware itself.
