Ns2?

Incase you haven't noticed, Flay and co have started a company called Unknown Worlds Entertainment

http://www.unknownworlds.com/

One thing that stuck out at me was the line that says: NS is first contact, NS2 will be the war...

Does this mean there is for sure going to be an NS2?

This opens up the possiblity ns2 might be a standalone retail game. That would let Flay do what he wants with the engine.

Looks like Flayra is working with this guy...

I'd always hoped and imagined that NS2 would be NS on a larger, warlike scale. Imagine herds of Onii bearing down on marines in tanks and fortified chaingun emplacements through the streets of a ruined city, or a huge dragon-like alien dogfighting with squadrons of marine fighters while a group of bombers nuke a hive cluster from the sky. NS2 has the chance to be epic, and it looks like Flayra is seizing that chance.

I'd say NS2 at this stage is pretty much concrete, as to engine etc prolly HL2 but could be anything (HL2 is good coz of playerbase).

Imagine 15 alien species and 15 marine classes/vehicles.*drool*

What i would really like to see is the use of veichles and dropships and things like halo 2. Being an online game and keeping the feel of the halo 2 trailer would be absolutely brilliant. Im just waiting for more games like planetside:). However planetside and halo both feature enemies that are your basic soldiers. I suspect the ns universe would be much more difficult to balance purely becuase of the radically different style of enemy. However surely this just calls for alot of imagination and more importantly time. Its sad that many game publishers cannot afford the time to make a game perfect and keep tweaking it like mod communities.
Ns really is an amazing acheivement

I recall in some old interviews about Natural Selection.

    1. Going retail at some point was always planned (or hoped for).
    2. Flayra was always dedicated to expanding the Natural-Selection universe.
    3. Flay has a quote somewhere that is like "Imagaine a game with thousands of players in hundreds of different battles at the same time, changing the game world." It sounds like NS2 would be a MMORTFPS.

I'm looking forward to seeing how the universe expands. We know the Kharra are bacterial and symbiotic organism. They take over other life forms and integrate them into the species. Think about how widespread the Kharra must be, taking over entire worlds. There must be thousands of potential evolutions. Also, how does space travel work with the Kharra? Do they ride with hosts? Does that mean there are other intelligent alien species? I'm dying to know what Flayra has dreamed up with these guys.

Hah, I wouldn't worry. That was speculation based a managled quote.

But even if it WAS pay for play, the idea is too sex to pass up. :-P

I think the concept of the game is best as it is right now, no need for a full-scale Natural Selection war game.

It would beautiful to have the ablilty for this game to have 10x the map size, and open fields of battles between the Aliens and Marines. Vehicles with mounted MGs, maybe a Human/Manual Operated Robot to fight the more large outdoors Aliens aswell. I'd like to see new Alien War Species and Marine War Machines in the bigger mapping areas if they use the HL2 Engine.

Flayra mentioned the possibility of NS2 as a retail game in an interview some months ago.

Now can we please stop making threads about this?

I bet the mods are laughing at us poking around for anwsers but anyway.

Most game designers try to make "exactly" what they want in the earlier versions, but usually some get taken out due to bugs and engine limitations.
I'm guessing NS2 will be a suped up 1.04 with no bugs.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves now, NS2 is not going to be anytime soon and we have no idea of what it is going to be.

Hey, what if NS2 wasn't on HL2 or D3 or any other games engine? What if they made their own engine designed especially for NS2?

Also I like the idea of a MMORTFPS. Picture Starship Troopers like battles between Kharaa and TSA Marines!

I don't know the numbers or anything, but if they make a game like this, and have their own central servers (say, worlds, for example), it would be an extremely stupid buisness decision to not make it Pay to Play. Sure, you get less players, but that means less server costs, and rather then tons more at a higher cost just paying once, you get less, at a lower cost to you, paying monthly.

Yup. HL2 won't have it's own servers, except for the one all the player's servers send a message to so that your server gets on the serverlist, so the costs shouldn't be that high... But games like planetside and everquest and ragnarok, those servers must cost them...

Thus Ragnarok is no longer free for download.

Thats the benefit of most FPS games.
