So What Are Your Keys Bound To?

7Bistromath7Bistromath Join Date: 2003-12-04 Member: 23928Members, Constellation
I'm pretty sure I've ended the eternal search for the 1337est setup. So, I created this thread to show it off, and see if other people can do any better.

I've got most things bound to their defaults. The most notable change I have is that voicecomm is remapped to TAB. V is way too hard to hit while moving around at the same time. With TAB, I've got the key nearly right next to a finger that's moving around all the time anyway.

I've also made my best effort to go for a one-handed configuration. Flash F, Drop G, something I can't remember H, map C, score V. That map C was a stroke of genius, too. I need the map alot more often than I need to move my hand over to where the M key is, but I don't need it so much that the little bit of movement difficulty matters when I've got it up. Duck and walk are switched, because I've always hated that duck is CTRL by default in any mod. You need that alot more than you need walk, especially in this game where walking moves at the speed of bureaucracy. I'm pretty sure I've got SOMETHING useful bound to z and x as well, but I can't remember what.

    WSAD
    Q - lastinv
    E - use
    R - reload
    F - flashlight
    V - taunt
    C -minimap
    Tab - showscores
    Capslock - +voicerecord
    <b>Shift - duck</b> ( i never understood how anyone could use ctrl as duck... )
    Ctrl - walk

    mouse sensitivity - 3.5 WITH the windows XP mouse acceleration thing on. I turned it off after reading about it in the forums recently, and noticed I actually played worse with it off. What kind of mouse settings do you others have?

    Pretty much default...
    Q lastinv
    C minimap
    SHIFT walk
    CTRL crouch
    Z taunt
    T spray
    Y say
    U teamsay
    E use
    R reload
    F flashlight
    G drop
    Then WASD for movement, of course. I also use O for "Request order" and P for "Acknowledged". Comma is request for medpack, period is request for ammo. As alien I've got all my binds on my keypad:
    7 = RT, 8 = OC, 9 = DC, 4 = SC, 5 = MC, 6 = Hive, 1 = Skulk, 2 = Gorge, 3 = Lerk, 0 = Fade, and "Comma/Del" = Onos. Yeah, I'm done now. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Edit: Sensitivity = 17.5 (I tried 30 once, it was fun <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->)

    I use mostly the defaults, is C map? It is for me and Bistro at least.
    I'm starting to use ALT for duck because I've started cramping up my pinky rather bad, dunno why now of all times, but crouch jumping is just a reaction with CTRL.
    I have the numpad for aliens and their building.

    7 Regen 8 Adren 9 Cloaking
    4 Fade 5 Gorge 6 Onos
    1 OC 2 DC 3 RT

    Of course MWheelup for bhopping, but I should really use somthing for mouse 3-4-5.

    shift= crouch
    ctrl= walk
    space= jump
    mouse3= voice
    mouse2= lastinv
    w= menu

    still use 1-4 for slots tho, tab for scoreboard

    There is very little evidence for carpal tunnel syndrome. I work on computers 8 hours a day plus all the time I spend playing NS when I am not working.

    Wrists, phalanges (sp?) never hurt. Been doing it for 10 years now with no ill effects.

    Anyways I use the following key setup.

    Arrow keys for movement
    CTRL = jump
    KP_INS = crouch
    KP_END = use
    KP7 = drop DC
    KP8 = drop MC
    KP9 = drop SC
    KP4 = drop RT
    KP5 = drop Hive
    KP6 = drop OC
    E = celerity upgrade
    R = regeneration upgrade
    Y = messegemode 1
    U = messegemode 2
    O = evolve Onos + exec onos.cfg
    A = adrenaline upgrade
    S = evolve Skulk + exec skulk.cfg
    F = evolve Fade + exec fade.cfg
    G = evolve Gorge + exec gorge.cfg
    K = cloak upgrade
    L = evolve Lerk + exec lerk.cfg
    X = +popupmenu
    C = carapace upgrade
    M = exec marine.cfg
    END = slot4 (for xeno baby)
    ENTER = weapon_knife
    MOUSE1 = +attack
    MWHEELDOWN = +reload

    .cfg files contain scripts for each class.

    Scripts are bound to MOUSE2 and MOUSE3.

    I play on a laptop, so my key configuration is a tad different from most NS players. My voicecomm key is pageup, but pageup is directly to the left of my forward arrow key. Pgdown, on the other side of the arrow is taunt. H = drop sensory chamber
    J = drop defense chamber
    K = drop movement chamber

    Numpad 9 = scent of fear

    I think that's all. I might try having the minimap in mouse5, since that's not in use atm.

    wasd - movement
    q - prev weapon
    tab - scores
    caps - snapshot
    shift - walk
    ctrl - crouch ( I have no problem with it there, and even use it for cs too)

    r - need ammo
    f - flashlight
    g - drop
    t - spray
    v - acknowledge orders
    c - request orders
    z - chuckle
    x - map
    space - jump
    mouse 4 - reload
    mouse 3 - use
    mouse 2 - popup menu
    mouse 1 - attack
    mwheelup - slot 1
    mwheeldown - slot 2

    Pfffft. You're all the same... like sheep, or a herd of skulks... assuming you could herd skulks without having them rip your head off. Though i'm not really sure WHY anyone would want to herd skulks... its not like you can milk them or... uuuhh... wait a sec, this is getting OT. Where was I? Oh right. Prepare to be freaked:

    LMB = Forward
    RMB = Backward
    Z/X = Strafe
    Space = Jump
    A = Duck (rebound to Ctrl for commander)
    Ctrl = Fire
    Alt = Flashlight
    S = Menu
    D = Use

    <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Thats the basics. I've got the map and voice coms on my mouse (thumbs 4 'n 5), T and R is for chat and teamchat (respectively), F keys handle various functions (CFG's, net graph, screenies, disconnect/reconnect/quit, RR, etc) and voice messages on the keypad.
    I've also got an evolution selector on the keypad (aliens only) that lets me cycle through the three chambers to pick my upgrades. Oh, and as a Gorge, i've got a handy dandy system on my mouse (pgup and pgdn mouse buttons, middle click to drop) that lets me cycle and drop chambers without fumbling through the menu. Me likey.

    Long story short - a buddy of mine got me Mousewalking (the config's general name) back in the days of Quake n' such. A little practice is all it takes to become habit... and since I don't have a good reason to switch, i'll probably stay mousewalking for many years to come <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
