[mwip]kukri *first (someone Decent) Model Ever!*

Using boxes = teh devil!
Got milkshape and finally decided I'm going to frigging learn how to model. Got really easy (but time consuming) once I figured out how to do it one vertex at a time.

For my first project I did a kukri, because a knife is something nice and simple to start with, and I have a kukri myself and I rather like it.

I'd rather have that than the little dinkey TSA knife vs. the Kharaa in meelee.....can be used like a hatchet except more lethal because almost the whole edge of the blade is a limb-removing "sweet spot" when sharp enough

Please note that this is only one shape, they all have this basic profile but some are a little different depending on if they've been made to work better at some things than others (machete, multi-purpose, hatchet stuff, etc) This one is a more modern-style that had a rubber grip. I may model my own knife later, it's a traditional style with a more agressive curve and a wooden grip that I must say looks real sexeh.

Also note that GIMP doesn't save jpegs well....here's the pic

Very nice first model. My advice for you is to make sure the parts not visible on the knife arent high-poly, say the handle. Excellent work.

Thats lots of polys in that knife... a couple of tutorials and some practise and you will be making great models

I saved two files, one for usage in display; that one. I just copied duplicated the knife again and then hit "show model statistics" and took a screeny. So, cut the polycount in half....unless 400some polies is still an awful lot.

Hey, I got a kukri-knife myself, at home. Could post reference-pics if I ever manage to grab my cam.

If you look carefully, the thread starter said he owned a kukri as well.

    Version 2

Blade is unchanged, put on a better-looking (and lower poly) grip. I also figgered out how to make GIMP save jpegs in better quality
