Skulk Wallwalk Leg Movement

bertbert Join Date: 2003-02-11 Member: 13433Members
i'd like to start this post just by saying that i've been playing ns since 1.04 and am not a complete newb.

anyway i tried to search for an answer to this question but to no avail. thus:

skulks do not move their legs while walking on walls or on the ceiling.
i understand that the leg movement animation probably only plays when normal ground-walking occurs,
but is it totally impossible to get it to play when the skulk hits the walls as well?

this has always been an issue ever since model rotation came into effect and i'm sure someone knows if they are doing something about it or why it impossible to fix.

some of you may consider this post as cluttering the forum but i thought a long time about whether or not it was a worthy idea and came to the conclusion of "what is the forum for anyway?"

so if anyone knows an answer to my question, plz post so this thread can get locked up quick and easy.

thanks,

bert.

I THINK it's because wall-walking is handled as ladder walking. I honestly never noticed...I'm either busy trying to shoot the skulk, or AM the skulk.

Yes. The skulk treats every brush as a ladder. I don't know why that keeps his legs from moving, because when a marine climbs a ladder his legs move, but that is how the skulk sticks to things.

Well, I think their legs move. I could be wrong. I know they do when they walk on those monkey bars in ns_siege007.

Ya, thier legs play the walk animation at a ridiculously frantic pace. Im pretty sure NS rines have the same thing, if so, I would wonder if it has something to do with the model rotation, like this guy said. I dunno, maby flayra took it out because he tought the hyper walk looked stupid for skulks.

I've got an idea. Maybe he should put in model rotation for MARINES on ladders. YEAH!!!

Well the dev team did change the axis on where skulks move and turn perhaps running has been fixed. I honestly hadnt realised the skulks didnt move their legs on walls with the new orientation. I knew in 1.04 they didnt coz they stuck on their back, i always assumed the legs moved in this version ah well.

You Should see the animation. And when you climb walls the leg stretches. Its very realistic.

Yeah, I have seen this too. To see a skulk running normally then suddenly jumping on the cieling and not moving his feet at all does seem a bit weird. It would be nice if this was fixed so skulks always moved their feet if they're attached to some surface.

Hey bigbull thanks for the link i never really got into custom models but now i think ur site gets a bookmark.

    Sorry for getting off topic...

Anyway why does a custom model use the walking animation but the skulk one not? Mistake? overlooked?

How about a piece of code that makes the skulk move his legs at the expected pace whenever he moves at all(above the walk-o-silence treshold). That would work out fine, wouldn't it.
