But I've heard people praise the songs from Final Fantasy games and I decided to check them out. I was very dissapointed, to say the least. Seems like pretty empty music to me... :/

Nah thats cool, we all listern to different things. I think they are more linked to emotions like;
Riding on a Chocobo - Fun (Specialy the flying golden one in FF IX)
Sethiroth's Theme - Scary (Did that masion bit at 02:00 in the moring)
One winged angel - Ambiguous? I dunno, a combination of happiness that the game has come together but sad that it's ending.
You can't just listern to the music. This may sound weird but it's only good when your playing the game to it.
And 'Those who fight further - FF VIII' when you on the bike chase bit swinging with your buster sword as Cloud.

<b>Cids theme</b> (the slower version from the scene in the past with sheila on the rocket)
the <b>Lost Temple</b> theme (forgotten temple?) [the place where aeris takes off].
of course <b>Aeris' theme</b> (the music makes 'that scene' x10 better than it would have been without)
World map (or <b>clouds theme</b>) wasn't bad either.
though I do agree that all this music is better when its played with the game.
I remember what would win for "hardest song to get out of your head" though. Haha, my thoughts exactly on FF7. My gf would say One Winged Angel as well, but I still think any of the original music from FF6 (3 US) is best.
Edit: oh, right. Aeris is the US name, Aerith is the Jap.
