<div class="IPBDescription">is it possible to play it on XP?</div> Was hunting through my old CD's looking for 'lost gems' and came across the Win 95 edition of C&C (original - and i can't find my dos version <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->)

Wouldn't install at first, compatibilty mode soon fixed that, now it won't play, some error and i can't check it because it's on my other PC and i'm too lazy to get up <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

Google found nothing, so does anyone know if a patch or something exists to make it work in XP? Because the original > all others

EDIT - NM, modified my search on google and found this : <a href='http://central.origin-network.net/tdtut.php' target='_blank'>How to fix it <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--></a>

    I don't know about that, but i've always known it as "Tiberian Sun". Is it a different game entirely and i'm being stupid, or is it a changed name accross international borders.

    *edit* spelt tiberian wrong like a nub.

    Quick overview of C&C games, minus add-on packs because that would mean i'd go have to hunt for them:

    Command And Conquer : Tiberian Dawn (Most commonly known as Command and Conquer)
    C&C : Red Alert
    C&C : Tiberium Sun
    C&C : Red Alert 2
    C&C : Generals

    EDIT - Stickman's n00bness rubbed off on me <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Ohhh.... So Tiberian Dawn is the extension name of the original C&C, gotcha.

    As for the main question, for such an old game i doubt they bothered to update it for Windows XP if i'm honest. But don't take that as a fact, since i'm most likely wrong.

    *EDIT*

    And as soon as i post this, i found out that i was wrong from an edit in the main post.

    Destiny - 1.

    C&C '95 is what I know it as, but I also do know that it's referred to as 'Tiberian Dawn'. Too bad we'll never see 'Tiberian Twilight'.

    Well, provided you have the <i>'95 edition</i>, yes, that will work. I've got the original DOS version, and it won't run under XP under <i>any</i> circumstances, so I have to use a boot disk.

    Heh. Not only do I have a DOS version, it's one of the earlier DOS versions; when I used to play a friend in modem games he used to have to add a command line parameter to tell the game to revert to the old version, otherwise it was incompatible with mine! <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Does anyone know how to get Westwood's
    Emperor Battle For Dune working on Windows XP?
    As much as I loved this game, I can't bring myself
    to go back to Win98 in order to play it.
    I may have to partition a few gig off and stick Win98
    on it, JUST for Emperor <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    hi, I'm the_kid, and i wrote the tutorial on how to get TD working on xp, and am the webmaster of cnc central. but I dunno if it will work with an earlier dos version of it...

    as for emperor, I have xp and can run it without problems, but I did have trouble before I got my new video card. I had a 32mb v-card, and it wouldn't run whatsoever, but when I upgraded to a 128mb it worked no prob. you may wish to download the newest patch. You won't be able to find an official Emperor website, cuz EA has killed of westwood, and support for all westwoods games have, well, died with it. But the ftp is still up, although I suggest you get the patch as soon as possible, cuz EA may shut it down at any moment.

    ftp.westwood.com

    Good luck with emperor.

    And I'm glad I was able to help you with getting TD to work.

    We need C&C: Tiberian Twilight and end the friggin series with a bang. Westwood would want it that way.

    Unfortunately, Westwood aint quite dead. Zombie like, they continue to shuffle around and emit moans, with bits of decaying flesh falling off them. Hence, all the C&Cs after TD.

    Lo,

    Welcome to the forums <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Thanks for the help and C&C is now working <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    The crap acting, the one at a time build limit, the pixelated units, the <i>balance</i>... it all brings back loads of memories from when i used to play it <b>all</b> the time when i was a kid.

    I can't seem to find my covert ops disk <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo--> so i guess this will have to do ATM.

    Thanks again

    And as for getting the DOS version to work, surely a DOS emulator would run it?

    Ok, Im sure it was only called Tiberian Dawn in the US (some copyright or something), and you missed out a C&C, the one that was MP only and only released in the US although the name excapes me.

    On a second point, iv got the C&C DOS version, after trying for 1 week I gave up, but I didnt try too much with DOS emulators, because I knew I could pull my old laptop out <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    AFAIK, the one you're referring too features a single unit in a RPG type look down battle or something?

    I've also forgotten the name, but i only included the ones that were popular.

    And as to being only called Tiberian Dawn in the US, that is correct

  • JimmehJimmeh Join Date: 2003-08-24 Member: 20173Members, Constellation
    Rellix, to install the game:

    1) Explore contents
    2) Right click on setup and install .exe files (any you find in the main folder) and go to properties and the compatility tab. Set it to windows 95
    3) Try now

    I don't count Renegade as a C&C game, because it's not a RTS and it's more of a FPS based around the C&C world.

    Ok, anyone know any good DOS emulators, it would be nice to have a game.

    I tried to trick RA into thinking it was C&C seing how the games are virtualy identical but that didnt work.

    Iv tried looking for help with the DOS version but I can only find win95 version help, so I thout id try and find my old win95 CD but I cant find it <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo--> .

    Ok hate to double post but, Iv searched on the internet but it looks like there is no way of running C&C DOS on Windows XP, but C&C95 WILL run if you apply the patch.

    My advice is to find your old Windows 95 CD and install it ,since windows XP supports multiple instalations of windows, then just play older games in that.

    EDIT

    Ok found onther one explaining how to do it but again <a href='http://www.planetcnc.com/features/techtroopers/classicsInXP/' target='_blank'>here</a> it onyl works on GOLD
