What too much free time can do
Did this in my tech class after sitting around and doing nothing.

CNC program was about 100 lines, used 1/8" square mill bit.

Used MicroKinetics' CNC Express Milling System

    KICK ****!

Did you do that into some plastic stuffs? Can you do it in any plastic? or how does that work? And can we pay you to do logos for us? :D

I can do it into most materials, except steel and harder aluminium, I had a nice plexiglass one that's a bit deeper cut, but I gave that to a friend of mine.

that was really cool, you need to make more of them.
    Make a NS one next!

Ironically, the TSA logo was going to be the first design I wanted to do, but it's too complex to do with the crappy CNC translator we are using, I may try again further down the road. HL2 logo is just some nice circular arcs and lines

My dad got to play arouund with one of those...that's pretty badass, man.

I have had extensive practice in programming one of those machines, but I never got to use it I used a CNC Lathe. It's for circular objects, it spins really, really fast while you cut into it.

I've used CNC Lathe software before and learned how to write programs for parts, could be some fun stuff, but never got the opportunity to use the actual lathe

You should make more of those and sell em off to rabbid Hl2 fans. I'm sure they would pay at least 25$ for them. I know I would if I was crazy.

Reminds me of CAD which I've done prefer, pretty sweet work there.

I'm sure Valves lawyers would want to tutor you in the ways of copywrite law if you tried that.

Now all you need is a quick release fixture and a truck load of materials. Cute little mill btw. Doesn't look like you could cut much steel but I'd be surprised if you couldn't cut some aluminum with that mill. Most of the work I've done has been on Hurcos.

We have one of those machines for my school's tech department, it looks nifty.

I'm taking CAD though, not Comp-Aided Mfg.

CAD is crap without actually being able to make what you designed. You can really tell when a designer doesn't have the hands-on expierence in machines, they suck bad, they're clumsy or hard to use and critical parts break easily.

I've milled aluminium on the CNC machine, we've also done cast iron...sort of (at less than 1ipm) I still like the look of the plexiglass or acrylic, like frosted windows...and you can't see the toolpath (the path that the tool, the mill bit which is like a drill bit but designed to cut sideways, follows) like you can in AL or the plastic I used.

I wonder if I could give these away...you know...donate $5 to our school's electric car fund and get a free HL2 logo as a gift... But there are better things to do then figure out how to defeat copyright law anyhow.
