I can't pinpoint a certain game, but I recall the boss theme of Final Fantasy 7 was fantastically funky.

Here's a midi of it (the OST .wav is far superior, natch).

    <a href='http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/sony/ps1/ff7_boss_mix2.mid' target='_blank'>FF7 Boss Theme</a>

That sounds god awful in MIDI. The best FF7 song is the orchestrated version of "One Winged Angel"

    Halo
Scorched Planet; Battle Theme (An oldy but a goody. Too bad it won't run on my PC anymore... Drat)
True Crime: Streets of LA, for the rap fans. (A shame the game's good-guy plotline was so horrid)

Anyone remember Star control II? I think it had the best sountrack, very original tunes and with my brand new shiny GUS soundcard (oh those were the days..) even better <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> .

Nah, I still like that battle tune better than One WInged Angel, which although good, is overrated.

I'm surprised no ones mentioned Chrono Trigger yet. That has to have one of the best scores I've ever heard. Other than that I would have to say that Morrowind is coming in a close second.

Also could someone give me a link to One WInged Angel. Its so talked about I feel like I'm missing out on something.

FF7 - One WInged Angel, Red XIIIs theme...I can still hear it.

Probably some other that I haven't though of.

Some of my favourite individual tracks include:

    Secret of Mana main theme
    Skies of Arcadia credits theme
    Metroid Prime main theme
    Gitaroo Man "Sanbone Trio" theme
    Grim Fandango OST
Parappa the Rapper (I, forgot, to close, the door)
    Balloon Fight 'Balloon Trip' theme
    Super Smash Bros Melee OST
GTA country song ("menfolk find their women scary 'cos they were so big and hairy!")
    Bomberman anthem
Super Mario Kart - Koopa Beach

There's about a hojillion others I've criminally overlooked, I expect.

Edit - like Green Hill Zone and Star Light Zone (Sonic), for chrissakes! And the Space Harrier theme! And Magical Sound Shower (Outrun)! And Shenmue, who could forget Shenmue! And.. forget it.

    <b>YES, I DO.</b>

I have them; I also have the 3DO version of the Battle Theme and Hyperspace music on mp3 format.

Speaking of MOD music, as I have often repeated...

    Warcraft 2
Sim City 2000 and 3000 had nice music
Warlords Battlecry had AMAZING music, IMHO
The Deus Ex theme song was nice
Medal of Honor was pretty nice
The Legend of Zelda, all those Zelda games had good music
Rogue Spear has some good tracks
Starsiege: Tribes actually had some good music in it
Almost all the Star Wars games have great music

And for BEST MUSIC EVER EVER EVER it's a three way tie:

    No One Lives Forever/Crimson Skies/Tropico

I bought the soundtracks to NOLF and Tropico, and probably would have if Crimson Skies had sold it.

Chrono Trigger, by far. Especially the frog theme. I actually had the entire CT soundtrack on my playlist at one point ... don't ask <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->. NO snes game had music as great as CT, period.

edit: WTH me, i wrote CS instead of CT...

    Mechwarrior 2
    FF 6
    some Wipeout songs
    some Unreal Tournament songs
    some Morrowind
    Warcraft 1 + 2
    Simcity 2k
Star Control 2 - well done and very appropriate to the game, if not necessarily applicable IRL <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
some C & C (early stuff, have not played any of their games of the past 6 years)

perhaps not the bestest of them all since I have not heard everything. But definitely <i>very</i> good music. Better than professional, competitive with commercial standalone music since I don't bother to listen to most of that <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

DEFINITELY listen to Mechwarrior 2 music though. If you like electronic music also listen to some UT and some Wipeout and some CnC. FF6 is real nice orchestral music but tends to be sad. Warcraft is also very good orchestral, and not so much sadness. SimCity 2k has great chillout tracks
