From the various posts iv read its all but haulted, either the mapper went awol or the dev team have concentrated on 3.0,
maybe they will get round to it one day because i dont think it is that important, if memory servers me correct there will be a revised 3.0 manual released near the time 3.0 comes out, maybe the installer will have a link to it?
We can only pray that the new players will take the time to read it, i done a few training demos a while back but they were for 1.04, maybe ill do some movies after 3.0 comes out.

Last I heard of it was that Merkaba was working on it - unfortunately, I heard that from him, and I haven't spoken with him for almost a year now...

Maybe someone in the community could make a training map and send it to Flayra/Max and they could finish it off with all the voice guides and whatnot.
If I'm interpreting the first post correctly (and I may easily not be), I think he means a way to play NS by YOURSELF, to train. Not just a 'walk-through' tutorial, but passable opponent Bots (or something) included in a one-player version of NS.... You can read training manuals 'till you're crosseyed, but nothing substitutes for real experience. One nagging, highly unfortunate aspect of NS (IMHO) is that the only way to train (to date) has been to get out there and make tons of stupid mistakes, get flamed or banned for being a noob, have jokes played on you, deal with hackers and other lowlifes while you're trying to learn, hoping those who are 'teaching' you aren't just messing with you until you know better.... I suppose all that abuse counts for 'experience', but just imagine what NS could've been like (or wouldn't have had to suffer through) if we'd all had, from the beginning, a nice safe one-player make-mistakes-&-learn-in-private "arena" to shake out in (like a training map?) before going out and inflicting our noobness on everyone... (sigh)....
From someone who's only been here since JUST before 1.0(4, etc) went away....
The best "training" you can recieve for NS is in game experience. The basic concept is fairly simple to grasp, while marine shoot anything that oorgles or makes funny sounding noises, while alien just kill anything that doesn't look like your own. Once past the basic concept you have to learn strategies, gorging, fade, comm. These abilities can be picked up by watching other experienced players and just experimenting. I found that when I started playing in 1.04 that I knew absolutely nothing. I remember the first time I went gorge everybody yelled at me, except one guy pretty much guided me step by step through being a gorge. After that I think I had a pretty good idea on how to play the game. I really don't think a training map would be anywhere near as useful as experimenting on your own in the game.

I hate when newbies come in and ask how to build as an alien. Honestly it would take about 20 minutes for me to explain the basic concepts and key strategies to this game to give you even a halfway decent fighting chance.

But I agree either way.
