It's gone too far <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo--> now they're actually taking over your computer.

Every time I go to google, and do a search, ANOTHER page pops up (http://search-company.com) and also does the same search. So now I have 2 search pages open- and that page automatically goes on top so it demands your attention.

This is **** me off. I deleted cookies, got rid of all temp internet files, I did ad-aware, and came up with nothing. I searched my registry for the link, came up with nothing.

How do I stop this?!?! <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Use the task manager to find any applications running in the background that arent supposed to run.
    Then do a search for the file, locate it in on the hard disk, and if it seems to be some kind of spyware, delete it.
    You can also try to run msconfig to see wether they start themselves upon system boot. Just type msconfig into Start -> Run...
    But be careful what programs you kill <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->.

    Thanks, I went to msconfig and checked it out. There were a few unfamiliar ones but I'm not sure if they're supposed to be there or not. I disabled them and rebooted- no dice, still there <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I'm not gonna re-install windows again for this! lol I'll just learn to live with it if I can't fix it

    ~blink~ you've used adaware but have you tried spybot search and destroy? It's pretty good at picking up where adaware left off sometimes =3

    Maybe you should clean out your registry while youre at it.

    First of all, you should also run <a href='http://security.kolla.de' target='_blank'>Spybot S&D</a>. It's on par, if not better, than Ad-Aware and it has detected a lot of things that Ad-Aware didn't. I use both to keep my system as clean as possible.

    Second, go to Internet Options in IE, click on "Programs" and click on "Reset Web Settings". This should reset all of your search pages. Spyboy S&D has a tool somewhere that will allow you to check what they're currently set at.

    Also what I’ve found to be good in addition to things that ad-aware and spybot doesn’t catch, is to open task manager and see what is running under your user. Anything that you don’t recognize of is most likely something not good. Do a google search on exactly the name you see in the task manager and you’ll usually get some info on what it is, if it’s bad, and how to remove it.

    It’s also good to take preventative measures to stop spy ware. Block ports, spybot can do this, get a good anti-virus, AVG is a good free one, and get a good popup blocker, I’d recommend freesurfer.

    Once when i was using IE i got a Spyware that put a search thing at the top/bottom of the screen. I tried everything, Ad-Aware, Spybot, Asking on forums and so on. Then i checked Add/Remove Programs (Don't know what it is called in English) and there it was! Right in front of me. Try this you 2 <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I already mentioned in the first post that I already poked around the registry.

    Just like someone mentioned I should use ad-aware when I, again, mentioned in the first post that i used ad aware <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Haha..

    Sorry, but I'm in this same situation and it's just kinda funny.

    Either way, I dunno how to get rid of it. I've ran SpyBot multiple times. I've done virus scans, trojan cleaners and registry cleaners. Still to no avail..

    I think mine might be a bit different though.. It just changes my homepage every so often and removes everything from my favorites list and replaces it with porn links. (Oh no, I looked at porn and got something screwed up with my comp, big deal.)

    But, I'm just living with it now. There's probably some obvious, easy, quick fix to it, but free porn just isn't as bad as it might seem.

    Good luck getting yours fixed. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Have you looked at your hosts file? (basically a file called "hosts" in your windows folder) sometimes spyware changes it to make stuff like "www.google.com" take you to a site that looks like google but really isn't.

    Don't use internet explorer, it's got a bad history of security holes, most recently <a href='http://www.secunia.com/internet_explorer_address_bar_spoofing_test/' target='_blank'>this one</a>. <a href='http://mozilla.org' target='_blank'>mozilla and firebird</a> are a couple of alternatives.

    Wow...

    I think that fixed it....

    Can't tell for sure just yet but I think it worked.

    Thanks!!
