I have... One... Thing to say.... WTH!!!!!!!!!!! How could they?! They... Changed the names of the characters... And they don't even LOOK the same! This... Sucks. I didn't like the last few episodes of Eva, nor did I like the movies, but this is going too far... Wow. The only anime i've ever watched so far is being made into a CG movie, AND I discover it's being shown on the Sci-fi channel all this week (at 5am...). It's a sign. It's a sign I tell you.

(I'm up to episode 17 btw so no spoilers after that point pls? Kthxbai)

I'm not happy about a few things. First off, they renamed Asuka KATE? I thought she was meant to be German?

Arg, I spoilerised myself, i'm guessing whoever "Susan" is is the fifth child...
*edit* Ohhh, it's Misato. Wait a minute..... did i just... read... AGH! *edit*

The first picture of unit 00 is just silly. The 2nd one is a liittle better.

I have all the respect in the world for Weta - currently the leading CG film group IMO. And the choice to cover a popular anime series should be applauded....
But that said... The characters look waay too different. And the original names fitted the character's personalites more.

No, as if the movies weren't bad enough, this _kills_ it. Asuka looks like 25 year old trailer trash, Rei looks... not right... The only pictures I liked were those of the city, which really have nothing to do with Evangelion (unless they changed the look of the city as much as they changed everything else). So, this is gonna be in an American movie? *cough* bomb *cough*

I wish they had done something different, like make an American 'subseries' of Evangelion that covers what was going on in the West during the timeline of the original Japanese version - (Nil_IQ look away now) I guarantee if Shinji had been an American he would have stayed sane in the end. And he sure as hell wouldn't have felt any remorse, let alone cried, after killing that creepy (for more reasons than one) Kaoru dude...

I know you purists are mad crazy about possible changes but... as someone who has no clue, I think it looks pretty damn cool.

The first few shots with the (evil?) mech really have me interested. The environment shots are great too.

Yes Asuka looks like a real person, there are simply some flaws... Like the fact that she is 12! Does that trashy ho in the pic look 14? Not bloody likely.

And whats with the americanized names? Especially Katsuragi! She is Japanese for gods sake!

And on the final note,
Blue hair > all.

/edit Just remembered all the pilots are 14, not 12... Been watching too much Naruto... (How much time has passed in that series? Hard to tell...)

1. It's the artists name.
2. It's live action so the character design doesn't really mean a damn thing.
3. The characters will probably be older for Western audiences as the whole 'underage girls naked' thing doesn't go down too well here. But hey, at least they won't be whiney brats anymore.

It's not the artists name, look at the signature down the bottom. In other pictures you can barely see 'artists name' in the little boxes on the sides. They have renamed Rei, Asuka and Misato.

I am slowly, and gradually coming to realise that this probably will be their names... as these conceptual artworks were included on the Neon Genesis Evangelion: Ressurection DVDs just released in America...
Bleargh. It's probably some frickin copyright law...
"Hey we're reissuing all the Transformers toys so lets rename Hot Rod to Rodimus Major because of some technical f***ing loophole."
or the Evangelion version
"Americans are too f***ing stupid to pronounce Misato or Asuka correctly, so lets dumb it down for our target audience. And while we're at it, lets bastardise Rei's name."

Between this and the fact James Cameron is going to produce a live-action version of the manga opus 'Battle Angel Alita', which focuses mainly on the deathball part of the books, I can safely this about Western Cinema.
No matter what film/series/book/etc they choose to convert from any other cultural point on the world, it will easily end up a bastardised hollowed out shell of its former glorious self.

Now if you got a Japanese crew to develop this... well... I'm sure we wouldn't have to deal with some of the 'OMG THE SOCCERMUMS WOULD SUE US BECAUSE OUR CULTURE IS SO **** INBRED, SO LETS CHANGE EVERYTHING' crap Hollywood is producing.

That said, I will no doubt enjoy the film immensily. The mecha fan in me screams for a live-action version of anything.
God I want the promotional poster... I want it... I want to frame it... and hang it on my wall... and stare at it...

yeah, the name changes suprized me, i would have thoght considering that ADV and ganix are invoved in the movie they would try to keep it the same as possible.

*frowns* but due to these changes i can almost tell you for certain that...

1. all the ("good") charactors are going to be americans
2. there would be multiple refrences to how great america is and how they are saving the world
3. it will be set in america
4. will proberly have a few shots of a 'broken' whitehouse to stir a few american souls to tears

at least, those are my predictions with a little sarcasm thrown in :x

This is gonna be aweful if they start changing the Ideas and all that other stuff that makes NGE the greatest!

The first time I saw an Ep of ENG I fell in love with it, I than continued to watch every ep I could and got my self the DVD box set and I even have a plush doll of Rei (get it its a joke I have a doll and Rei was a doll... hehehe) that I go to sleep with every night. I have posters of Asuka also.

They can't F this movie up, they just cant!

The new asuka looks butt ugly. Let me rephrase that, they all look butt ugly.
They will change the setting to America... Ok I'm tired of this. It's either Japan or America that ended up saving or destroying the world.
How about next time Canada or Thailand save the world?

PS: At least we know it won't be a disaster like Guyver, Fist of Northstar.

if what I heard was right James Cameron was actually planning to span Alita across two films and his inclusion of motorball is mainly in the 2nd one... rather like in the mangas to be honest.
