The 'suckers' as I like to call them, are located in the Gorge's mouth. The viewpoint is from the mouth for the Skulk, Gorge, and Lerk (maybe Fade, but they're located in the same general area anyways, the eyes and mouth).

Yes, but in 1st person view they look like theyre much longer.

Also, they are verticle, wheras in 3rd person they are horizontal.

does it really matter?

How the heck does it see *inside* its mouth. That makes 0% sense.
• DarkDudeDarkDude Join Date: 2003-08-06 Member: 19088Members
Because, it makes playing as a skulk alot easier. With the "eyes" in the mouth of the skulk there is no need for crosshairs when biting and it would be hard to bite from normal eye level. It's not a matter of realism, but rather of gameplay.

To help gameplay. Also, even if you think it wouldn't, it helps Skulking by a lot, seeing the teeth bite.

Actually, it is infact the TOTAL opposite. Having the skulk's eyes in the mouth HINDER the ability to bite. That's why newbie skulks find it extremely hard to locate their target after that initial bite.

The reason: To counter-balance the effects of the marine muzzle flash.

Proof: Try playing as a skulk or marine the first round when that glitch where your weapons "seem" to not work. In reality they still "work" (hits still register) but the playing animation on your client side is not playing. I find it INCREDIBLY easier to kill an enemy without teeth/muzzle flash covering my FOV.

Sources: This answer was given to me way back in 1.x when I ran around the forums complaining the muzzle flash was too large (which indeed it was) and was telling every1 to set "r_drawviewmodel" to 0 (which no longer works ).
Edit: Also this topic (why skulk's POV are in mouth) has been done to death b4, just do a search.

The viewmodels really help you feel like an alien, it would not be the same without them.

So the gorge builds with it's mouth wide open? Wow, that's a way to look at it, all this time I thought it was little hands..

The very beta gorge model was different.

It was the .... i don't recall the name... monster from opposing force.

They're aliens. Their brains could be in their left foor in their pinky toe for all we know. They dont have to make sense, thats the best part.

And the thing I've always wanted to do (but I cant model) is add the gorges teeth into the view model as well as its little "hands."

I belive the correct term for the two "hands" are probosci, which is the plural of proboscus, which is a hollow tube in the mouth

Little fixed like this should be included. Also i know in the animation when you build a res tower etc.. its building without the gorge not doing anything.
