<div class="IPBDescription">introduces lag</div> First of all System Specs :
-AMD XP 1800+
-Soundblaster Live! 5.1
-GeForce 4800SE (ASUS)
-ASUS Motherboard
-Windows XP
-Using the Steam NS 2.0 client (without any other HL install on the computer)
-Vsync turned on

Now here is my problem :
When I join some specific servers (like the -battle for the galaxy- ones for example), my ping can go up as much as 1000+ when it usually overs around 100. I checked in my console and it was flooded with the
Error: could not load file sprites/minimaps/ns_siege007.spr (it's a custom map downloaded from the server).
I checked in the folder and the file wasn't there ... but the problem is I don't know where to get it AND it did the same thing in other maps (didn't think to check the console in normal maps.)

Here is a screen shot of my net graph (I usually run at 60fps)

    /me points at choke 93

    YAH thats your problem

Do you have dial up? (if so this hould fix the problem, if not do it any way)

Well here is what to do:
    1) make sure you have windows up to date (if you didn't you should have any way)

    NOW:
Start --> Controll panel (find it, I don't know how XP is set up if it aint there skip to the next part) --> Networksettings --> right click on What ever your network conneciton is called --> Find Qos Packet schedular and turn it OFF!

weeee, if this don't fix it call your ISP and talk to them <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

then it is time for option 2:
    Call your ISP

some thing is messed up somewhere

your computer is trying to send pkts faster then it can (or something like that) thus the choke

    contact the ISP and talk to em <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

I suggest never calling your ISP unless you ABSOLUTELY cannot get an answer ...

If it's an error with an HL folder .. then I would suggest finding a website with NS custom maps ... and download siege007 again ... this time replacing the old siege007 file .. and adding the minimap to your directory.

I'm pretty sure this will work ... Just redownload the map and add everything in the .zip or .rar to its rightful place ... <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Thansal, unfortunatly custumer support do not really know how things are done. They only ask you question based on a questionaire and TRY (emphasis on try) to solve the problem. Most of the time the answers aren't good or are just for stupid people (is the modem plugged in sir?...)

Prodigy, the problem is that I also get this error on normal NS maps. I checked and on normal maps I don't get this error but the ping is still way higher than it is supposed to be.

    Make your own minimap
start a lan game, change to the map
    then do:
    developer 1
    sv_cheats 1
    buildminimap

in console, and wait for the bar to complete

    Now you should have a minimap, eliminating the lag <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

I'm surprised noone else thought to fix the cause, rather then the effects

devicenull, thx for the tip but like I said eirlier it isn't only to this map (I saw this after making the thread topic).

Pebbles, I found the rate setting and it was at 1000 (or something really low). I checked on the HL tweak guide and put it up to 3000 and now it is quite better!!!!

Thanks to everyone who donated their time to oh-but-little-me-who-wants-to-play-NS-on-steam.
