Little sad that there will only be 7 maps after seeing many great pictures from other threads in this forum. Still, I guess you guys know best

I reckon some guys on the forum should get toegether and make some map packs, this way when the actual Version 1 of NS comes out we have alot more extra maps. With everymod someone doesnt like some levels, so this may be a good idea. There must be what, about 30ish finished NS maps out there? Stick 10 in one map pack and the choice of playing maps could increase vastly. Many maps are in progress, however this is jsut an idea and suggestion. We dont want NS to be overloaded with maps like CS now do we?

n@rby wasn't happy with Freon, for whatever reason. Before I joined the PT team (NSPT8), he had dropped Freon to focus on Romana. I think it's a shame he couldn't get it fixed up in time. ):

There was an official deadline for mappers a few months ago; any map to be considered for official inclusion had to be submitted by then for extensive playtesting before it could be accepted as up to par (both in terms of gameplay and visuals).
Great job guys...oh and also...Desren has died..>Starting over now...Had a virus, killed all my game files, including WC...I got the map from the old state from a friend, so it's not all dead. Desren should be in here...But many things like this have killed my chances. Desren is back, lurking in the darkness...Watch yourselves.

I have to agree, 7 seems too little to me as well. Well, I'm sure before long all sorts of non-official maps will be all over the place, so I can't really complain.
Congrats to the selected mappers for all of their hard work and accomplishments...

just average the meg size by the # of maps will give an estimated average for each map size.

The reasons for this are that NS maps are pretty big, they are totally non-linear, and have much higher layout learning curves. A map like Dust or Omaha are very very simple on layouts and can be learned usually in about half an hour. An NS map takes days of play to figure out all the nooks and crannies, then figure in all the strategies, base building opportunities, ways to assault hives, and so forth. Having 7 maps during playtesting was found to be complex enough. Also, most mods release dozens of maps, of which you will end up regularly playing five (I bring your attention to TFC). Having lots of low quality maps is not the answer.
So, as usual, there's a reason to why things end up the way they are in NS-land...

>ahem< That is to say, I am not so surprised there being only 7 official maps for the release. In my opinion it takes a player to know what makes a good map, and being only 80 PTs, and how many of them are mappers.. well I say 7 seems like a good number.
What is happening with n@rbys maps? Oops, just read the others posts.

Also, I too hope Ekaj gets off his duff and finishes shaft some day. ;)
And as far as there only being 7 maps, keep in mind that these are HUGE!
Also, the maps total about 36MB. But as monse has said many many times a rough guess for the full thing will be around 100MB.
I have to agree, 7 seems too little to me as well. Well, I'm sure before long all sorts of non-official maps will be all over the place, so I can't really complain.

You mean n@rby's maps. n@rby. manah's ns_caged is official.
Specially to manah and KFS, who are both good mates of mine
I just wanna say congratulations to all who put their best efforts on those maps.
And also a general congratulations to the NS team for putting together such a great MOD and for always pushing the limits of the engine.
I'm looking forward to mapping for this mod!
You can check out how they all look here.
