I Need An Mmog

<div class="IPBDescription">Advise me gaming high-council</div> Recently, i've been feeling the need for a MMOG. The fact that 2 of my friends in my computing class are hooked on EVE online and won't shut up about it probably doesn't help.

I've heard good things about EVE online, and bad things, so I guess they sort of cancel each other out. I've heard more bad than good about Planetside, but it sounds like a good concept, so if anyone can vouch for it i'm willing to give it a try.

Star-wars galaxies (or whatever it's called) is the other one I've heard a lot about. Supposedly it has improved quite a lot since it's early days, so I'm thinking about that as well.

I'm not worried about monthly fees, although whatever game I choose MUST have a free trial (I don't plan on spending £30 for the game, then another £10 for my first month when I don't even know if i'll like it).

I don't care about the setting of the game, be it medieval, futuristic or anything inbetween. It can be an MMORPG, but that's not a prerequisite (hence MMOG in the title as opposed to MMORPG).

I have to go now because my computer tower just fell over...

    I'd go for Galaxies

X2 : The Threat is coming out soon, and is supposed to be like EVE but singleplayer

If your in the UK get this months PCGamer, its got full vversion of EVE for free, you only have to pay for the subscription.

I decieded to try it fro 1 month a lot of the issues since the beta have been fixed.

I have been playing planetside for less than a month, and I must say it has completely swallowed my social life (what little bit there was before.)

Anyways, planetside costs $19.99 and comes with one free month. It's 12.99 monthly after that, and there are also extended payment options that equal out to more up front but less per month.

And another good thing about planetside is if you really don't feel like spending any money on it, there is a 7 day free trial where you can download the ENTIRE game from the website. From what I've heard though, it is one hugh-jass file. Close to 2 gigs.

Plus planetside is good because of the simple fact that it is a FPS. None of that "You hit 1337-H4X0R for 30 damage" crap. How well you do in this game is dependant on your FPS skill.

If you want a FPS MMORPG, then Planetside is totally the way to go. Its original, and a good game to boot. But if you're going for traditional MMORPGS, I'd have to say Star Wars: Galaxies is the best of them all.

Get the 30-day trial from Gamespot. You'll be done playing it before the trial is up.

That being said, it's awful fun for those few days that you aren't bored of it.

I'm not bored yet and still running on the trial. I'd suggest giving Planetside a shot before you go with something else, I'm really enjoying it. The longer you play, the more fun it is.

Go download the 30 day trial, if you like it you just start up with the montly cost and don't have to buy the game.

One problem with that; it's Windows XP only. I'm downloading it anyway, since if it doesn't work I can always try it on my parent's PC which DOES have windows XP.

I play EVE-Online, its pretty good, but like all MMO it has its share of problems.

Though, I like the fact I can level up my character without even playing.

Nah, you think it'd be a problem but its not. There is no way for them to find out if you have XP, I've had it running on 3 different OS.

Just a note to anyone else who wants to try Planetside out, but doens't have a credit card to signup for the trial : Put in 0000-0000-0000-0000-000 for the credit card number, apparently they don't check it untill billing starts (1 month)

Just wait till they transfer the tech over into StarCraft.

MMOGFPSRPG in the SCU would be absolutle pown4ge!1@!!

(Massively Multiplayer Online Game First Person Shooter Role Playing Game) in the (StarCraft Universe) would be absolutle pown4ge!1@!!

Just imagine being a overlord transporting tons of lings over to drop on the terran's base... or being a infested terran and detonating!
In a trench as a marine would be insane!

Anyone know that the movies were made before the game's release? this is why you see things like the Hydralisks attacking marines in MELEE combat, yet in the game they shoot spines. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo--> As well, the overlord has a melee attack too, and to load units into transports you had to land them, first. Really, just <a href='http://www.sclegacy.com/sections.php?op=viewarticle&artid=157&page=2' target='_blank'>Click this link</a> to go to StarCraft Legacy and see the alpha screenshots. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> (No, it isn't a hoax. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> )
