ok i just tried the new beta for NS and I gotta say its fun and great, good job, but one thing still bugs me, those CO maps, its ruining the concept of the game?!
The comcept of the game is to build a base with a commander and work together to get resource towers etc. but with co maps its kill things? Its just plain stupid, if i wanted to kill things I'd go play some other average fps. I say 5 Out of every 20 servers I look at are CO maps, so why just make more co maps and delete all the ns map? since thats how its going to be?! It looks tome that CO maps are taking over and its not a good things, its just stupid, thats my personal preference about this game, I say get rid of CO or maybe just keep 1.

    Also, bad first post to the forums. I see this thread generating lots of flaming.

    Nevertheless, if you don't like CO maps, set your filter to filter them out, simple as that.

    Its generally a diversion and a way to prepare new marines for the later part of the game. (NS maps)

    Trust me, its just that its new. I remember back in those days where SCs were always first because it can cloak things....

    it's not that, its just to many servers are playing them, thats not really what ns is is it? CO maps are like cs, natural-strike...or counter-selection....why wont they name it that? but i dont care if people flame this its just stupid how more servers play CO maps over NS maps... <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    if they wanted marines to get prepared why wont they make a decent trainign crouse instead of making co maps...

    I think CO rocks. Since the release of combat i never played classic again. Combat fixes all the problems that i have with classic. You are not dependant of a good commander and you actually get to use all the good weapons that you never see in Classic cause the comm is too busy farming turrets. Teamwork is still used because of the shared XP and i think this is the best way to make People work together since they benefit from it. While Marines win most of the games i think its only because few aliens go onos. Skulks simply are too weak against HA but i still see nearly all the aliens remain skulks or lerks and therefore loose badly. In the games where the aliens go Onos and Fade early the marines were screwed so i think CO is not that unbalanced its only the players that refuse to evolve to higher lifeforms. If there is something that is overpowered then its devour. It takes only a few seconds to digest and with the long rine spawn times a hit and run onos can eat the entire team leaving the base wide open for a decisive attack.

    Because Flayra doesn't have enough time to code in scripting sequences for the game.

    Combat is just for beinners. Think of it as Team DM. Another reason CO exists is because sometimes people want to break away from the usual 'command, control and conquer'. This is where combat comes in.

    I wouldn't worry about combat one bit.

    PLUS, it actually prepares you for NS games, and how to NOT make mistakes (running head on to a marine? No way)

    Alternating NS and NS:C is really fine.

    Combat, unless it is in a 30 person server (*cough* *cough*), can be useful for learning how to use abilities and how to actually fight. I'm not talking about grasping the concepts of the game, I'm talking about actually improving your techniques and general skill level. It is sort of like practice for the real thing, which is NS:classic. That's my view on it anyway.

    Combat is fun. Sometimes I love it, sometimes I love a good game of classic.
    I see no problem with that, everyone can choose the game they want to play.
    And ns_bast: maybe it returns. Like ns_nancy there is a mapper team who recreates the map.

    Im all for combat, its a great training ground for ns classic. People seem fairly split between the game modes atm anyway. If i want a buzz ill go co...if i want an epic game ill go classic.

    Combat is attracting all the cs people, which is a bad thing. They don't really care much for the rts element of the game, they just want to kill. I think combat will be the downfall of ns. God, everytime a combat is gonna switch to an ns_ map, I hear everyone bitching "WTH NS_ IS BORING!! VOTEMAP DAIMOS ROFLLOL" and I don't think its gonna end.

    I can't wait for the Bast remake, I agree that it's a great map. I'm hoping it's ready by the official release of 3.0.

    Combat is a lot of fun for me, and it's a great way for people to practice using the higher lifeforms without worrying about the team getting mad because they wasted the res to morph and died instantly. It takes practice to be good as at lerk flying and fade blink and runs, and a lot of people are too scared to get practice because the server they play on frowns apon those who spend res on fading only to lose it shortly afterwards. As such, it's a good training ground, even for moderately experienced players. And, for me, it's just a fun change of pace. I like servers that alternate with a combat map every third map or so.

    I could not agree with you more.

    However, Flayra needs cash, and co_ before retail is a good move; more ppl become interested, more ppl remain playing the retail pack.

    As long as NS remains free, and CO goes retail, I am happy. Thay way we loose all the mad co_ players and go back to good old TEAMWORK ns.

    I have no gripes about co itself; it is a great game. However the lack of co-ordination in both teams is a shame. Still, as has been said, combat is new, so slowly ppl will return to the realms of the more skilled-ns.
