How nice is nss' gfx

I know that NS uses the old, but still useful HL engine. I was wondering how good the game looks in action. I am sure that you can sneer at NS, and say things like notice lack of trillinear filitering. In the scheme of things all the matters is that as a marine you leaped out of your seat when you get attacked by a alien, or run in fear when you get swarmed. Does NS graphics do a good job at making you move slowly around the level. Besides I like having a game that my computer still run with decent framrate, and also has good netcode. I am sure that NS using a old engine like HL will not take much away from it, and that the new graphics effects like better  particles make the HL engine even better.

    For the question part, check for <a href="http://www.natural-selection.org/cgi-bin/ikonboard/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=1;t=6132" target="_blank">yourself</a>. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

    And they assured us that the netcode is pwn.

    He said in action, but if you think the screenshots look good(and how couldn't you?) it will only look that much better once you see it in action.

    and then there are the videos, which still aren't as good as the real thing due to needed compression.

    Aside from the gorgeous maps and models, NS has some of the best animations I have seen in a LONG time.  I could watch the level2 run around for HOURS - he's just so cute!  And the level5 makes my jaw drop every time I see him enter a room.  This goes double when you consider how difficult it is to code a quadruped as opposed to a biped like a human.

    Flayra changed Hl... NS makes the dark things look the same, while the brighter things are more brightened (?)....
    Everytime i play NS, i walk around in the maps and i am amazed to see what they have done to Hl. The maps look so smooth, everything is perfect. Sure, you can see it´s HL (the entities, the models, the death-HUD), but still, it´s just MORE THEN HL..

    You´ll see when you play. I think lots of people with older systems (read, systems like mine that cannot handle the newest games at a normal resolution) will play NS because it looks so beautifull with such an old engine. I play CS a lot because it runs so smooth on my system, wich makes it nicer to play instead of crappy FPS...

    Trust me on this one. NS looks fine enough. People won´t not play NS because it looks old. Its just the best game i´ve ever seen *sigh*

    As much as it is tempting to read this as a statement of profound and deeper meaning, I do believe that Shuvit is referring to the env_gamma entity in NS, which boosts the vibrancy of colours the same way Quake3 does.

    Sounds like NS has good graphics considering the engine that is being used. I am sure that the improved particle system also makes it look better as well. I cann't wait to see the animations for multi-legged aliens, and also carefully moving about the map in fear. Sure Q3, or the new UT engine would be nicer, but they would beat up my computer real good. The HL is a value engine since you get pretty good graphics consider the system requirements, and you can improve up in without drastically increasing hardware requirements. I think the NS team make the right decision to use, and improve the HL engine instead of using a newer engine.

    phew, i thought this was one of those "change to a different engine" things <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo--> false alarm ^_^
