3.0 Hivesight

<div class="IPBDescription">"help, I can't find my hives"</div> Back in the good old 2.01 days (you remeber, a couple weeks ago) whenever you got lost on a map as the alien, you could always rely on a bright green glowing reminder of where every hive location was on your hivesight. Thus, I was somewhat surprized to see it gone in 3.0, expecially when I was trying to learn the various new maps. Was it removed intentionally or is it just a bug that it isn't being displayed? if so, is the bug just on my side, or is it universal?

It was removed because there is an overhead map now. Just hold in C or M for the map on either team. Note that this doesn't work on combat maps.

the hivesight hives weren't nearly as disorienting to try to navigate around the map as the overhead map is, expecially since the overhead compleatly covers your field of veiw. I find im even getting lost on some of the older maps now, since whenever I tripped up before I could just triangulate my location (its alot easier than it sounds). Not that I don't like the new overhead, in a snap it just doesn't replace the classic hivesight though. (not to mention that its kind of strange for aleins to have access to blueprints style maps <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo--> )

newbie gorges unite - we want our hive sight back

It wasn't like hivesight was an unfair advatage, all the super leet players have the maps memorized either way. The overhead is great, but simply the existance of the overhead doesn't warrent the removal of hives from hivesight. When introducing a newbie to a new game the more help the better, you don't need to find alternitive ways to replace features that work already.

Who ever said you have to stop to use the map? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

you don't nessicarily have to "stop", but using the map is far less intuitive than simply spotting a glowing location somewhere infront of you. Even prosuming that a player doesn't stop, the time a newbie spends with the map down trying to figure out where the heck they are is probably time they should be spending simply watching out for enemy players.

If there is actually a good reason for hives being removed from hivesight like "X feature couldn't be implimented due to hivesight incompatability" I would be compleatly happy, but simply removing it makes no sence to me, as from my own personal experiance, learning maps is far easyer to do with hivesight, than the overhead map. Playing with newbies is a frustrating experiance as it is, trying to help them figure out where they are on the overhead map can't possible make it any better.

It was removed not only for redundancy but because it helped keep hivesight less cluttered. I'm sure if Flayra saw that people wanted it back he would reimplement it. Just let him know that this demand exists.

speaking of keeping hivesight less cluttered, is thier any way of removing the hivesight for a player that you are watching in FP while dead? At the moment, thier hivesight icon fills your whole screen, effectively blinding you compleatly as to what is going on unless you use a different spectator setting.
