when i first played on ns_metal i was turning around as a skulk for 1 min to find the hives 's green circles so i can go to one of them... then i was like "WTH is wrong with my ns? i can't see the hives's green circles any more..."
and now because of you i no that they took them off...
put them back they are very important when u play a map that u don't usually play on...
I have to agree too, I never use the minimap when I'm playing, the "hives" on the hivesight was my guiding lights...
Wow, I'm amazed to find people that the hive blips acctually annoy. Such a small feature that is so easy to mentaly block out, yet it is so infinately benificial to learning the map. Is it normal to find it annoying after you have learned a map? from my experiance once I no longer need to check for the hive blips they just become inconsequential. On a more agressive note, should the game be built to compensate the whims of the few players who have mastered it in every respect, or should it be built with the fact that it has a hard learning curve already, and newbies need all the help they can get, in mind? With the impending release of the 3.0 final version in sight, I think we should really think twice about removing features that are designed to smooth out the learning experiance, expecially considering the massive flux fo CS newbs we are likely to be meeting in the next little while
in previous versions there were certain corridors which when viewed from one end would become totally obscured by the writing underneath the hive blip. (looking towards port from sub on nancy springs to mind).
not just a little bit, it was very annoying and cecrtainly beyond my abilty to 'mentally block'.
with the inclusion of the new 'metal gear solid' field of vision, you guys really cant complain about the mini-map. there can be no doubt in which direction your looking, and you also get a full route to any hive (not to mention where buildings and team-mates are). all for the push of a key.
mini map is teh win. (mini-map/ 'C map' ... same difference)
Should of added in that I didn't bother to read all the other post.
Anyone else understand how Ollj's post is relevant?
He wants the overhead map to rotate. When you turn, the map would turn rather than your model on the map. It wasn't quite on topic, but it fits here, I guess. I don't really like that idea.
I haven't acctually ever tried the thing on nancy, I started NS a short time after the 2.01 release. I would love the chance to further develop such opinions for myself, but in my mind the prevelent issue it that it is WAY easyer to navigate any given map as alien using hivesight then the minimap. NS is not the most intuitive game, and I think that anything that can be done to help the newer players should not be excluded.
Is it plausable to have various features of the hivesight toggleable? Perhaps an exploration of that system would have a greater ability to please everyone. Personally I have always found the alein blips far more annoying than the hive blips, but I would never recommend them to be removed because as a gorge I often use them to evaluate the safety of any given room I might attemt to enter next.
Yeah, a client side variable would probably be the best solution, something like cl_hivesight 0/1. It would be there for new players, and could easily be removed for those that don't like it.
Maybe instead of it being greenish like normal players it should be made into something like light blue, this would mean someone would instantly know it was a hive, and it wouldnt get in the way as much because it would be more transparant.
sounds good to me
Because currently I have a hard time looking for the hives on minimaps. Not to mention you always have to re-orientate yourself to the right direction.

Actually, I'll second this request too. Especially with the influx of new players, it would be nice to be able to track the hives for the new people and new maps.
Possibly a single blip for both sides showing location of the hive/CC in Combat too? It's not like it'll move from game to game, and will make it easier for the new guys to work out where to head.

in combat...if you follow 1 path straight without turning (if the paths turns you turn too of course) you will end up at the cc / hive....
well.... that and because waves after waves of marines / khaara will be pouring through certain ways..... lol

Oh, I know that. But it will cause basically no extra coding/problems because the system is already in the game (afaik) while making the game a bit easier for the new players.... so why not?

- Shockwave

Because then players that start on combat won't understand why these blips aren't there when they go to classic (especially marines).
Perhaps some sort of toggle would be in order? Ie turning on the flashlight disables the hivesight in the same way building as a marine disables motion tracking?
I second this too! Guys you can't even imagine how lost i got in any of the new maps, and only to be teased my meany marines..having the hive in your sights can really help you navigate around as a gorge/skulk etc :>

Yea I miss it too, Even when you know where it is its still nice to see, so you can orient yourself that much quicker.
Put it back in!
